Clean Beach

I would like to stay in a decent hotel, enjor the amenities of the city and yet spend time at beach with clean water -- is that possible?

Thanks

Unfortunately there is no clear water in Pattaya, but I have heard different reasons why. Some say its because the bottom is a dark sand and others who say the sea is very unclean. The beaches are better at Jomtien in regards to less crowded, and the beach up by the Pinnacle resort (not plugging the resort just don't know the name of that beach) is very nice indeed, very wide and lots of trees for shade.

I don't let my daughter swim in the sea in Pattaya, but we do go out to the surrounding islands very frequently and enjoy a truly tropical beach day :-)

I dont know about the hotels as I only stay in the Dusit or Hard Rock (both are great and thoroughly recommend both of them)

They sell clean water by the bottle, but a little difficult to swim in that. Your best bet is going out to Koh Larn, water is much cleaner there. They have some hotels there too, but not upmarket ones. You still get a lot of Jet Skis and Speed Boat Traffic there. Quiet is it not.

Please.

There's plenty nice beaches near Pattaya, VERY near in fact.

Google for example Wong Amat beach (Also spelled Wong Amart), which is just North of Pattaya beach, there's a really nice little bay there.

Then others include for example SOME beaches on Ko Larn island (the one on the other side of the island, I think called "Sameh" ?

Jomtien is 'ok' but nothing special.

Down from Pattaya hill near the Cosy Beach hotel is also a nice little bay.

And then you can go further South, like where the naval base is, or even all the way to Ko Samet but then you're well beyond Pattaya.

My tip, taking into account you want to be near town: Check out hotels at or near Wong Amat. There's fancy choices (see the booking sites) or also good mid range options, such as the East Sea Resort (google it)

The cleanest water around is at Sattahip besides the Naval Base.

For a clean beach with OK water bottom of Pratumnak Soi 5 or bottom of Pratumnak Soi 4 where there is the Asia Pattaya Hotel, Birds and Bees Resort and Pattaya Beach Hotel (I think?) to stay, on the beach.

I used to live on the small bay at WongAmat, and yes the actual beach is deck chair free and the sand is okay but the water quality is very bad, and when I first moved there was advised not to swim in it.

Samea beach on Koh Larn used to be my favourite but now it has become reminiscent of Costa Del Yuk. Since the casino (?) has been built the restaurants and deck chairs have proliferated and when the tide is in there is no way at all to walk along the shoreline. Just a few months ago it was all but empty. I last visited about 4 weeks ago and I would not recommend it or return. Yes the water is clear and the sand is powder, but unless you like to be just one of hundreds or Russian and Chinese package tourists the avoid.

I gave up and bought a boat. Plenty of deserted islands to play on :-)

The state of Wongamat beach is a pet peeve of mine. It could be a really nice place but the sea is getting filthy, dead fish, plastic bags, even dead condoms! And yet they are hoping to sell condos at 4 to 14m baht (including brand new development).

The condo developers need to siphon of like 0.00001% of their profit and get the place cleaned up, although I don't know exactly what is the source of all the junk, I suspect "illegal" off-shore dumping.

In fact the whole beach area needs to be sorted out from Jomtien to Naklua. It is a simple question of profit. If condo developers and mall builders want to make $$$ they need a good beach or just stick with the beer bars as all the high income tourists will go elsewhere.

Wong Amat has a sewage outlet.

Pattaya beach is pretty dirty but according to some reports not as polluted as Jomtien....one reason for "clear" water is no plankton - i.e. all dead??!!. There was raw sewage pumping into Jomtien for several months afew years back.

The islands may be clearer....but who's tested them???

Sugar and Cosy beach on the headland may be washed better by wind and tide.

Really you need to head South to get anything like a clean beach and they can disappoint too...depending on winds and tides.

Closed place for me to get into the water would be the Sattahip Naval Base. Beach and water nice. Koh Larn as well, but too many R@@@@@@S!!! So I won't go.

All beaches in and close to Pattaya (Jomtien, Wongamat, City...), thankyou, I won't swim there.

Sattahip.

Go through the town heading east to Rayong, turn right at the crossroads to the naval Dock, approx 10k down this road just before the main enterance to the naval base turn left and follow the road down to the beach. Plenty of parking food and drinks for sale as well.

There was a thread some time back which had photographs.

I would not recommend any of the beaches in and around Pattaya the sea is filthy but drive just over 1 hour away about 20 minutes past Rayong to Mae Pim and the beaches are fantastic the sea is beautiful and clean and the place is paradise with some really lovely hotels right on the coast. I would high recommend Hinsay Namsai hotel which has the best sea views I have ever seen from the hotel rooms and is clean and cheap.

If you really want a good cheap clean beach holiday then head down the coast towards Chantaburi, about 40k before you will come to a junction with the 3399 turn down here and you will find some of the cleanest most pleasant resorts I have ever see in Thailand, absolutly Tropical and cheap too, Nobody seems to know they are there - deserted

the closest place I have dared to swim in the ocean near Pattaya is Bang Sarae. there is a small restaurnt with chairs and umbrellas near the northern end of the road going along the Bang Sarae beach (just where the road makes a right turn towards Sukhumvit when you face Pattaya). it is very convenient to park your car and there is just 20-30 meters walk to the beach restaurant. almost empty beach and quite clean. Sea Sand & Sun Resort is a short walk towards Pattaya.

Here ia a good example of how clean the sea is in Jomtien. The wife and i used to enjoy having a beer/meal overlooking the sea in Jomtien until our last visit which will probably be our last visit ever. I dont know the name of the place but it is was near to the 'Tarzan' resort. We could not find the place this time due to the building work taking place in the area so we stopped at a Thai outdoor restaurant. This was our view of the beautiful, clear blue sea.

The authorities really do need to do something about this before it gets really out of hand. This will certainly affect the tourist trade and i as mentioned before that we won't be going again.

Ko Larns beaches have been tested and classified good quality .
