Hand (push Reel) Mowers

Featured Replies

I only have a small area of grass and would preferably like to use a manual hand powered mower to cut the grass..

Anyone know if and where they can be bought ?

Cheers

I bought one in Pattaya and took it up the village for much the same reason you want one .

Cost just over 3k baht ( No catcher )

I got behind it and pushed and pullled for about 1-2 hours and ended up with a strip that you could call mown ( Or plucked ) about 2 1/2' wide and 15' long . I also purchased an electric trimmer from the same store ( Made in America ) that worked for about 10-15mins .

Unless it's a broadleaf grass that is easy to cut , I wouldn't recommend it . I ended up buying a decent size honda powered trimmer and purchased a universal weed whacker head from Home Pro to take place of the blade . Much more useable in the long run . If you are hel_l bent on getting one and live anywhere near Kalasin , I would part with mine for next to nothing . :o

A word of warning re cylinder ?reel mowers. Quality reel type mowers like Qualcast or Ransom are expensive items and are fully adjustable ,the cheapies are not , Adjustable rub bar and cutting cylinder are a must otherwise they are useless after minimal useage.

They also require a special sharpening lathe to sharpen the blades ,I dont know of any in Thailand.

Golf Clubs must have one (presumably) or they have access to a sharpening service with one,as their green mowers and gang mowers are cylinder type.

Thanks all for the replies..

I think I'll have to get a good look at whats on offer and make a decision. If I have to, I'll get a leccy one.

Maybe a trip to Globan next week.

The electric one is a great idea. You'll save yourself a lot of cussin' trying to get a Chinese reel type to work.

I got a hand push for our lawn, works fine....maid does a great job with it once a month.

Can direct you to shop in Bkk if you in neighbourhood anytime.

UPDATE -

Went to Globan in KK, the hand push reel type was a bit clunky and quite heavy. So I went with the electric one which did the job just fine
