How To Get Rid Of American Spellings On My Mac?

Recommended Posts

As much as I respect and admire the great people of the USA :o , I can't stand the way my spell checker, on Mac pages, continues to only offer American spellings - it is sooo irritating. I have searched the internet on how to change it but to no avail. Anybody got any ideas?

There should be the UK Dictionary already in!

Try this way: cmd+shift+colon and then select British English or got to Edit - Spelling - Spelling

Cheers.

Hi Reimar, when I go to there I'm not giving the option to select British English.

There does not seem to be any option for changing to a UK dictionary.

Ok, may you try this way:

In the international settings you need to hit edit list, then find and check British English. Then hit OK. Drag the british english to the top. Also click on the input menu tab and check the British.

Normally the UK Dictionary is somewhere within OS-X but I don't remember the exact location because I use the Mac only by my customer and I don't have one right now.

Mind you, it galls me to have to select British English on my computer as I'm Irish :o Sorry bad joke.

I used to have a web browser called Avant, (back in my windows days), that had a Gaelic option. Perhaps you should look for a mac version? :o
