I know of Somwang Guesthouse, near Johns Place, which is 200baht per night with a cold shower included.

ah, it doesn't seem so long ago that there were tons of guest houses with shower included for 150 baht. moon muang soi 9 still has a few cheapies i believe.

Or failing that why not save some money and just sleep rough ?

lots of places if you pay by the month. if you pay by the night you have to pay at least 350thb
