I noticed this on both on my computer and my mom's computer (located on the other side of Bangkok), both on TRUE internet connections. The problem is that images on websites are not resolving correctly. They are resolving when the full path such as http://www.domain.com/image.jpg are used, but not when a website uses http://domain.com/image.jpg (non-www). To me this seems like a DNS problem on TRUE's end, because when I use a proxy, it works just fine.

Has anyone experienced something like this? The fact that it's happening on 2 different PC's also rules out it being a local problem...

Not only pictures but also css files: that's why most websites hosted abroad looks like shit... :o

True and CAT epitomize incompetence! :D

Maybe you're wrong!

It's a question of resolving the Domain Name and that is NOT related to the ISP but to the Domain Hosting.

For example, if you host your Website: xyz.com and you just resolve your Domani Name as http://www.xyz.com and not as http://xyz.com as well, from some systems you even can not connect by using http://xyz.com or you get only the Basic display!

Just to tell how I use my Doman Name: 1. for my File Server I use http://xxxxxx.com and 2. for my Mail Server http://www.xxxxxx.com and you get 2 different sites with the same Domain Name!

Cheers.

I suspect this is related to the problem reported here that True users have many images get a red x for about a week now. I had reported earlier that clearing the cache and refreshing the page had no effect. But, but, but I found a solution that works. Press Control F5 (not just regular F5) under IE on broken pages and it fixes all the images, at least temporarily. True has all sorts of new problems lately; dog slow, sky high latencies, intermediate redirect pages, and this image problem to name a few. They seem to be at a low watermark if that's possible.

I don't use IE but Firefox and Opera instead. Both of them not any problem on TRUE even I never write http://www.xxx..........only even without http:// just the sitename like xyz.com!

So may I'll later give the IE a try again but which is the version you guys use? IE6 or 7?

Cheers.

It's definitely not an issue with the server hosting the domains, because it's happening on several major European newspapers I visit every day and they're hosted in different countries. It also can't be on my end because when I use a proxy it doesn't happen.

So it's definitely TRUE....sigh.

Maybe you all are right!

But my question again: WhichBrowser you use to have that effect? Could that be the answer? Becauser as I stated above, I do NOT have any problem at TRUE Samut Prakarn.

May you Guy's list the Sites which having that problems and I can check them from here?!

Cheers.

Q: Which browser?

A: Vista + IE7

Q: Which sites have problems?

A: All of them. Thaivisa for instance many avatars, buttons, smilies, sponsor areas have a red x. Clears only by using Ctrl F5.

OK, it need a bit time for testing because I've to finish the Upload of SP1 to first and that's around 2 hour more. After that I've to re-activate IE7 in Vista for to test.

Let you know later.

Have the same problem with TRUE in BKK since 2-3 days...... no matter if IE or Firefox. all international websites take ages to load, and sometimes the pictures are not being displayed....

the TRUEth is: get used to it.... :o

Installed IE7 back in Vista and tested: NOT any problems with any site. Same for Firefox, in both 2.11 and 3 Beta2 and Opera 9.50 Beta!

Ok, all my computer using NVidia Cards with DNA Drivers, having 2 or 4 GB Memory, but they Intel and AMD 32 and AMD 64 Bit.

Only thing I could think about is that may some Excanges having Problems. It could be NOT TRUE itself because I'm on TRUE 2,560/512 at Samut Prakarn.

Speed is except the time from 7 pm til 11-12 pm not any Problem. And even downloading within 7 pm and 11-12 pm isn't very slow, get a download at that time from about 150 - 200 KByte/s and on the other time ~250 KByte/s. Only some sites surfing is bad within 7 pm til 11-12 pm.

No Reimar you don't have any problems but everyone else have. It's not a matter of which browser you use or which sites you visit.

The fault lies with CAT and if you still think everyone's internet is just fine then explain to me they have an recorded announcement

when you call TRUE, that informs you of big problems at the problem comes from CAT and all ISP's are affected. Case dismissed.

Yes, I am having the same problem, it started about week ago. It must be to do with the internet and not the computer's themselves, cause I haven't changed anything on my computer.

One website I was trying worked again tonight (UK nova.com) but, some are still just coming up with writing and those red crosses instead of pictures.

I'm on TRUE, Samutprakarn as well, and had the same problem on and off, including for thaivisa.com, where I got text instead of small icons.

Confirm that this is an issue with True - images missing and CSS not always present. Working at home on my CS Loxinfo, everything is fine. Working from the office - garbage. The office connection is 1024/512. Been like this for at least a week now.

Just an idea: Could this all be caused by imperfect caching of the sites in question? If you're looking at ISP caches rather than at the original host websites, and if there's a lot of congestion due to heavy traffic and international cables broken, then maybe when the cache was last updated, it couldn't download the graphics files from the host site. Perhaps the www being present or not affects whether you're looking at a cache in Bangkok or at the original host.

Anyone more familiar with how caching works care to comment?

A bit suspicious! I'm at Theparak km. 5 in the Back of Seagate and the TRUE exchange is the No. 7596xxx!

It works without any problem. except the time based slow down as desribed above, in all 3 Browsers! I had some times ago some problem but that was related to an Internet Cafe on a normal public connection. After TRUE was changing that, nor more problems.

So, if it works for one, it isn't the ISP-System! But what could it be?

The only way to find out is to try to get the service to your location and than show them what's the problem and let them check your Phoneline. I strongly believe, it's a problem within the wiresystem but NOT with the ISP. Unfortunate both of them are TRUE!!

And if you don't believe me, I can do some screenshots from which site you want to show tjhat there isn't a proble, on my place on an TRUE connection!

Cheers.

If I were y'all (dam_n, living in Houston for 6 years has corrupted me!), I'd change my DNS settings. With the right router, you can do it there. Otherwise, you'd have to change it at each and every computer. Here's a page of how to do it in Vista. And another in XP. For real computer users ( :o us linuxers who probably don't need a guide), it's here. (Or for Ubuntu users) There's even a guide for those using the S60 versions of Nokia phones.

I've alwaysed used OpenDNS, and it's always worked like a charm. They even correct common mistakes when you enter an address.

"So, if it works for one, it isn't the ISP-System! But what could it be?"

It could be a problem that is affecting other users and not you, and still be an issue with the ISP.

Could be effectivelly a cache related problem.

Are you by any chance using the TRUE proxy catch server? In IE7 believe it would be listed under tools/internet options/connections (but I use Firefox and have that set for direct connection to internet after having problems using the proxy).

But internet has been gud awful the last week or two with international bandwidth almost zero after 6 or 7 PM as all Asia (and probably Africa) is going to the US/Europe via the Pacific now with the cable breaks in the Middle East. So extra calls for photos are taking forever.

I just chat with True on their customer support site. It seems they're unaware of the problem :o ...

Here below the talk (I just replaced the name of the operator by ThaiOp, no need to put the blame on him/her, after all we are after the company, not it's grass-roots employees):

คุณ ThaiOp : ThaiOp ออกจากการสนทนา ค่ะ

คุณ ThaiOp : ยินดีต้อนรับสู่ True Care Chat

คุณ John : hello

คุณ John : I have a question related to my adsl

คุณ ThaiOp : Hello.

คุณ John : on most international websites pictures are not displaying properly

คุณ John : I think the problem is due to your proxy caching

คุณ John : are you aware of this problem?

คุณ John : and when may we expect it to be solved?

คุณ ThaiOp : Your hi-speed Internet nubmer ********* right?

คุณ John : (both images and css files are concerned)

คุณ John : right

คุณ John : sorry

คุณ John : but the problem is not myne alone

คุณ John : many people are concerned, just check on thaivisa.com

คุณ John : many people complain about this really annoying problem

คุณ ThaiOp : Could you inform me the example of websites that you cannot access it.

คุณ John : http://www.comingsoon.net/trailers/

คุณ John : we can open the sites

คุณ ThaiOp : You access it via LAN Cable or wireless sir.

คุณ John : but the rendering is shit

คุณ John : wireless right now, but it''s the same by lan (i use both during the day)

คุณ John : css files and pictures are kind of filtered by your caching proxy

คุณ ThaiOp : Wait you hold for minute , I will check the information for you.

คุณ John : yes please

คุณ John : and don''t tell me it''s due to the cable in taiwan

คุณ John : because i can have access to the site

คุณ John : if the pictures and css do not display properly it''s a proxy caching issue

คุณ ThaiOp : Thank you for holding.

คุณ ThaiOp : Can you access another website?

คุณ John : yes of course

คุณ John : but images and pictures are not 100% available

คุณ John : other site example

คุณ John : same problem: pictures are nt displaying properly

คุณ John : http://www.profy.com/

คุณ John : this one too: css is completely obliterated

คุณ ThaiOp : What's the IP addess that you access that the moment?

คุณ ThaiOp : Do you set anothor proxy when you access website?

คุณ John : no other proxy

คุณ John : just using basic connection from true

คุณ ThaiOp : what's your OS , Xp, MAC?

คุณ John : automatic dns, well everything standard

คุณ John : XP

คุณ John : the problem is the same with explorer, firefox, opera or safari

คุณ ThaiOp : Thank you for your details.

คุณ ThaiOp : I will send your case to our engineer network to verify this issue.

คุณ John : wait a second

คุณ John : i wnt to show you something else

คุณ ThaiOp : After that we will inform the informarion to you as soon as possible.

คุณ ThaiOp : Yes, please.

คุณ John : http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=167978

คุณ John : one topic among others where people are testifying the same problem

คุณ John : I really hope true will fix this glitch soon

คุณ John : it''s almost working perfect: just this damned annoying glitch

คุณ John : thank you, i wait for your feedback

คุณ ThaiOp : May I have your IP address

คุณ John : *********

คุณ ThaiOp : Your contact number, please?

คุณ ThaiOp : Your name is Mr. John right?

คุณ John : **********

คุณ John : John right

คุณ ThaiOp : OK, thank you very much for informing the interrupt, it is very importance for us improvement our service, sir.

คุณ John : ok have a nice day, bye

:D I think my request is going to be filed and forgotten...

Would be better if more people go to complain diretly by chatting with True operators:

Ok True call me back (a translator + a technician) solved the problem a few minutes ago.

At least True was responsive this time. :o

I did not find websites with CSS or Pictures problem so far.

So for me at least it's solved.

If it did not change for you:

well, try to delete your cash first (under explorer, i had to do that because even after True fixed the glitch it was not working with explorer while working with firefox), and if still not working chat with True or call them directly.

So happy when things are working! :D

Well things are yet working at 100% :o

Other websites still have missing pictures :D

No more power to expain to true what's the problem for today: let's hope it gets solved by itself by night.
