Started when I got in to mood for mischief and closed TLW - seems to have infected the mood of some of the other mods and we are on a roll.

What's a TLW?

I must be naive, I usually take these things at face value. In the past I posted a few things in earnest which I though might be of interest, and some people came on the thread and said I was a troll and were very insulting. It was strange and surprising.

OK about that riot at the beach, I guess those kids were generally angry. Interesting about the mass psychology of it, I can barely get my mind around it. The acoutrements of each group were symbols of something presumably -- a philosophy on life or did it take on its own life as just a way to belong to a group?

Surely social scientists, parents, politicians, clergy, educators, etc. have already done this topic to death, trying to answer the big question, "why?".

I have another slightly nagging question, which I hope is not out of bounds.

I went back to the beginning of the oldest threads in this forum, and saw so many members who had been banned. Some of them seemed like quite interesting people. I am guessing that at some point they get so angry about something that either they lose self control over what they post, or they just plain want to self destruct. Or maybe they drink too much. Or maybe they were trolls but I just didn't see it.

OK guess I have wasted --er, spent enough time on this topic for now.

Firstly Z, I would be amazed if you hadn't come across at least this Thread one of four.

As long time members are aware we have been down the chat room road years ago and we decided not to continue with that because it a) results in useless rubbish and ruins the purpose of the forums.

As a number of members have found out this morning after previous warnings that were ignored, we are banning anyone who takes these forums into chat room territory.

Admittedly I was upset by a poster who advised me to 'f off back where I came' from but hey,in retrospect I have more friends here than I have enemies.(Actually I don't have any enemies here I hope).Pretty much teenage stuff really to make one lose one's cool but I've learnt a lesson and hope my flamer has also.

Netiquette.One should always respect others.Venting on a forum in the form of abusing other members is just plain silly.Go kick the cat if you're pissed off with the world.I treat people here as I would in real life and people respect that.I'm pretty genuine and down to earth my humour may be weird at times but hey,personality goes a long way as they say in Pulp Fiction.

People come from all walks of life and the anonymous nature of the internet allows everyone to have a say.Flamers are cowards who know they can't say that to you face to face or risk a smack in the mouth.Flamers can never graduate to being trolls because they just aren't clever enough.They like to abuse so it's instant gratification for them.(Take advice and kick the cat)These emotionally supressed and dysfunctional individuals have no balls to stand up for themselves in real life so they do it on the internet.

After my last post I went to the OP to find out what this thread is supposed to be about......so now I'll tell you why I sometimes put on the troll hat....I do it so that the moderators will feel needed and that they are doing something worthwhile.....and I especially do it if there is a new moderator around so that during the arguement which inevitably goes on when this happens I can give them some good advise on how to run the forum. I think its a pretty good strategy and it seems to work really well....the mods mostly mind pretty well after I clue them in....but sometimes it takes them suspending me a couple of times before I can get enough words in edgewise to straighten them out.

Also....sometimes I post what some think of as a troll post because sometimes some things just have to be said....it might be because of some philosophical reason or it might be because it is just too incredibly funny to not post it....when these types of situations arise I have no control over the situation and the post just spews out effortlessly....the consequences are meaningless in those situations.
