Ubc On Phangan

Featured Replies

Anyone have any details about costs for installing UBC from new on Phangan? Would need full installation (ie dish and everything), but some neighbours have it so know it is possible. What are the package costs like?

Also I have Samui cable on Samui at the moment and it is very unreliable (especially in bad weather)...does UBC have the same problems? Especially in the more remote areas of Phangan?

those small dishes have problems in the bad weather wherever you are! My parents had problems when it snowed heavily, so its just a feature of the dish. Koh P prices for UBC are the same as everywhere else AFAIK. the main UBC guy used to be just off the songserm pier in Thong Sala, not sure if he is still there or not.

i rent the equipment but i think you can buy it too. i pay about 1500 baht for the gold package but it's pretty crap, not sure it is worth it most of the time.

Does that include the package rental cost? Believe me after a year of Samui cable, the gold package looks like a dream. BBC WORLD!!

Girlx, how much do you pay for your internet package too??

yeah it's just 1500 baht a month til i cancel i guess... or maybe a bit more, i can't remember. i just leave it on in the background. my internet (tt&t maxnet 1mb) is about 1000 baht a month i think. i think i had to pay one month upfront for that plus i bought a wireless router for 2000 baht so I could have wifi. but if you need a phone line too (like i did) -it was 7000 baht to install about 3 years ago. adds up eh. i don't get bbc world! only bbc news. :o

Nah, got t wrong - I was thinking of BBC entertainment - BBC world is the news channel which I get already. Just found out that BBC Ent no longer has Eastenders though (English soap as addictive as crack) so I am not bothered.

Phewey, think I will pass on internet then as will have to get everything installed.
