How A Re Steering Wheels Connected

Featured Replies

The garage had to do some work on the airbag and now my steering wheel is slightly off centre. Are they connected just as a clamp on a sort of pipe or is it like gears where they have put it back one off centre ?

Its bugging the hel_l out of me but the missus took it in to get it sorted and it came back marginally the other way off centre (horizontal when the wheels are straight).

Anyone know or understand what I'm on about ?

Yes, it's on a pipe with splines held by a nut. If you try to correct it yourself beware so

you don't have the airbag connected.

If the garage B@ggered the job up, take it back and get them to put it right. Also check that the indicators cancel out correctly when the wheel is straightened cos that can be a bugging thing that also happens fairly regularly too.

The wheel should be centered. That would be kind of annoying. If the shaft has 24 splines,

moving it one over would shift it 15-16 degrees or so. Without looking at a shop manual, I'd

have to guess there were other things they loosened and retightened that might have thrown

it very slightly off. Your other option is down the road, if you have a front-end alignment

done, they should be able to first center the wheel, and then perform the adjustments. OR,

you can just pretend like it doesn't bother you.Centre=Center,Bonnet=Hood,Spanner=Wrench. :o
