euroflash Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Hello all I am going to change my current non-imm. visa to another type of non-imm. visa. Before leaving Thailand to get this new visa, I have to cancel my current one. But since I have a multiple re-entry permit, I guess just leaving the country will not cancel my current visa... So, can I cancel it at Immigration at Suanplu before leaving Thailand? Anyone? Thanks...
sas_cars Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 You don't have to leave the country to change the category of you NON IMM visa. You can just do it simly at Suan Plu.Just take the documents of your new NON IMM category to Suan Plu and let them know,They will do it for you.

euroflash Posted October 19, 2004 Author Posted October 19, 2004 Thanks for the replies. Well, I am changing from an ED visa to a working one. According to the Thai authorities, I do need to leave Thailand in order to get the new one... Anyway, I will pop down to Suanplu tomorrow and see what they say.
yuyi Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 The embassy which will give you the new visa will void the old one, with a nice big stamp and their signature. (I do however not know if that is only the case if the old visa had been given by them also, but I don't think so)
huski Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 The embassy which will give you the new visa will void the old one, with a nice big stamp and their signature. visas are obtained from a thai consulate outside of thailand. thai immigration can change your class of stay, typically only when applying for an extension of stay.

Did you know you can get a work permit with any non immigrant visa/permit except for O-A? That includes an ED. We have six clients that are students with a one year stay multi-entry permit based on ED, that have work permits as well. www.sunbeltasia.com

An extended O based on retirement is a no no, as are D's and F's.
kenkannif Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 I thought you didn't need a WP on a Non-imm F (or is that basically what you mean?).
dr_Pat_Pong Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 I thought you didn't need a WP on a Non-imm F (or is that basically what you mean?). I was just pointing out that the term ANY was drawing an overly long bow Ken.
euroflash Posted October 22, 2004 Author Posted October 22, 2004 Thanks for the new replies. I have, however, already gone to Suanplu, where they cancelled my present visa. I was aware that you can get a WP based on an ED visa, but I do prefer to have a "normal" visa as I would not be able to get further one-year extensions based on my ED visa.
