Hi-

I'm going to be leaving Thailand next month on two separate side-trips, does short term luggage storage exist at Suvarnabhumi, is it viable in terms of cost, and where is it's location. Thanx

Yes, used it many times. Its next to the police station on (I think) the 3rd floor, in the middle of the terminal. It cost around 100baht per item.

p.s. checked the above linked map and it aint on there!,suggest you look for Tourist Police Station or go to enquiries.

There are a couple of left luggage facilities in Swampy.

I find them very useful if I am transiting BKK between say HKG and RGN, Oz etc passing through BKK.

However take note that they physically check inside your left luggage for any valuables - electronics, cameras, laptops etc. I understand the reasons for this, they do not want to be responsible for any valuables - but it can be very inconvenient. I tend to leave a larger lockable trunk with electronics (I travel with a lot of camera gear for work reasons, often 100-150kg excess on any trip) but I always lock the trunk securely, so I feel the onus is on me to secure my gear.

Having said that - if they see any valuables etc they won't let you leave them.

To get around this, I always prepare my stuff, out of sight, before arriving at the left luggage - and try to pack things that do not look like valuables on top of, and around my camera/computer gear. When they ask me what is inside I tell them it is just personal items, and then they inspect the luggage. Have got away with this in the past few years (both at DM, and then Swampy since opening)

I realise it is my own risk - but have never had a problem with left luggage in BKK, and the convenience saves me carting a lot of excess gear between regional destinations without carting it around un-necessarily.

I have left gear anywhere from 1 day to a month - and feel the cost is worth it as I am saving on excess on short hops where I don't need access to my stuff.

Prepare the luggage before you arrive at the left luggage service, to avoid the above mentioned hassles which may entail them refusing to take your gear.
