I want to get ADSL and went to tt&t and filled out the papers. Two times already and asked a lot of shops in Thong Sala. 6 month ago and nothing happens. Any ideas how we can speed up this thing? On Koh Phangan.

Try to contact CAT Telecom they are much more professional. They come in Koh Phangan everytime they have 5 contract and then they install your connection completely free. You just must buy the router. Little more expensive than TOT and TTT but very reliable connection.

doesn't it depend on what service you buy? normally you need a phone line, and then you call the ISP and get them to turn on the ADSL signal according to whatever package you buy. you need a router (they will either provide one or you have to buy your own) to pick up that signal. configure the router with your computer and you should be ready to go.

I was few day's ago by "Joy Computer" Ban Tai, due to a network problem. I have a CAT wireless with phone number. He told me that he has a new item, kind of USB Modem/phone, also from CAT. !5'000 Baht for it and 700 Baht/month. More then 1 MB.....

I have no furtherr information, since I told Chai to bring such a item an let it testing on site in my house. So maybe this couls be interesting for you to?

If you like to know more please contact him at his Internet cafe and shop. The first house after passing the big school in Ban Tai, coming from Thongsala on the right hand. He is a Cisco-Engineer, does not speak to god english, but can handle the stuff.

Anybody here on Ko Phangan nows about that CAT option, or has experiences?

Thanks for the infos!!! I have a unlimeted EDGE - card wich I only can recharge in the friendly-shop in Had Rin. 1100 Baht a month for 24/7, but the signal is not realy good when we have to many people on the island(full-moon). And how can I get in contact with CAT-telecom? I tried to google it but not really successfull for Koh Phangan.

mac wheeler used to use the CAT wireless modem--try pming him to find out how he liked it.

CAT in the Nathon post office offers a dedicated DSL line, you must be within 3k of the dsl box, so you need to get in touch with the office and find out if you are close enough for the line. Many of the internet cafes are using the dedicated DSL line.

Here are a couple of threads regarding the CAT cdma modem Edge Signal Koh Phangan and Does Anyone Have The Number For The Cat Shop On Samui?

which shows the phone number for the CAT office in the Nathon post ofice as 077 421 130.

You could also try PMing Prasert as he seems quite knowledgeable about it:

From how can I get an internet conection:

CAT Telecom is at this moment working on ADSL (and later this year SDSL) on Phangan. The manager from CAT Samui told that initially they will provide CAT Hinet, 2Mbps down and 800kbps up for 2800 per month (exc VAT), setup fee 3500 baht (exc VAT). Contention ratio 1:10 !

This should have been completed 3 weeks ago, but they ran into the same problems TOT is having, so the technical setup is being changed as they want to outperform TOT and steal as much from their market as they can.

Judging from the performance of SDSL on Samui, CAT is 4 to 5 times as fast compared to TOT on international websites (and no, I'm not talking about P2P or bittorrent but Skype / mail / webbrowsing).

Expensive option, but probably worth the money.
