Woman Killed in Road Accident

On Wednesday afternoon police and rescue volunteers were called to the scene of a road fatality near Sukhumvit road in Sattahip. At the location they found the body of a 29-year-old Thai female who had been struck by a large truck carrying water tanks while she was attempting to cross the road.

According to witnesses the truck driver was speeding when he hit the pedestrian and she was flung at least 20 metres down the road and died instantly. Unusually, the truck driver did not flee the scene of the accident. Instead, police found the 29-year-old man sitting in the front cab of his vehicle.

He told investigating officers the deceased had run out in front of him and he had no chance to brake or swerve to avoid hitting her. The driver has been taken into custody and may face charges of reckless driving causing loss of life.

Are drivers in Thailand drug/drink tested after an accident?

Being flung at least 20 m's :o

I ride a mountain bike most days and the speeds that the lorries shoot past at on small roads is just crazy.

RIP :D
