Hello,

We will arrive on a Sunday at 7 pm. and we like to go right ahead to Ayutthaya. If we want to take the train, which station is the best to go, Hua Lamphong, Bang Sue or Don Muang? Is there a public bus going frequently or is it better to take a taxi to the station? Or, maybe it's possible to take a taxi to Ayutthaya all the way, is there someone who knows the price? Thank you :o

You can get a taxi direct from Suvarnabhumi to Ayutthaya. The journey is about 70 kilometres and takes less than an hour....but taxi can be a bit costly,1000 baht+

You can get the train direct from Hua Lamphong to Ayutthaya.Theres a reasonable hotel opposite the railway station (forget the name, sorry, but has a floating restaurant.Rooms from 750 baht).Also,200 yards from the railway station is the 4 star Krungsri River Hotel.Thats the best hotel in Ayutthaya, rooms from 1300 baht.Myself, the wife and two children stayed there last month.Triple room, overlooking the river, 2050 baht per night, includes breakfast.Excellent hotel that I can recommend, although the farang breakfast is nothing to get orgasmic about ! :o

I think the cost by train is something ridiculous like 15 baht for 3rd class. So I doubt if 1st or 2nd class will set you back too much. The trains are every hour but not sure of the time of the last one.

Dont know about a bus from Suvanabhumi to Hua Lamphong but you can get a meter taxi from the airport to the railway station.....maybe around 200 baht.

Bear in mind that the hotels in Ayutthaya are a fair way from the sights.....Ayutthaya is a very spread out place. So you will need to get a tuk tuk when you want to go sightseeing....cost is about 60-80 baht.

An excellent trip, also,is to the Royal Summer Palace at Bang Pa-In about 20 kilometres away....the tuk tuk will take you there also (no taxis in Ayutthaya).

We just hired an old boy with his tuk tuk for a couple of days to see the sights whilst we were there.Just be prepared to negotiate on the price and compare the costs of different tuk tuk drivers (beware of rip off merchants etc)

It was our first trip to Ayutthaya and we really enjoyed it.Hope it works out the same for you. :D

Thanks Macclad for your extensive answer.

I thought maybe it's faster to go to one of the other stations to avoid a trip into the congested downtown area. We shall take a taxi when our plane is very late, but I think there are some trains between 20.45 and 22.00, normally spoken we should have enough time I think so.

Do you mean Bann Kun Pra guesthouse? It looks nice on their website. I think we should book in advance for the first night, because we shall arrive very late. Is there someone who can recommend this guesthouse? Which one are the nicest rooms?

This will be our second trip to Ayutthaya, but in 1999 we only had a few hours for sightseeing, so we like to see some more of the tempels in this trip.

I would take a taxi (ca 300 baht) or bus number 554 (34 baht) to Don Muang station and get the train there. Saves you 45 minutes getting to Hua Lamphong through the most congested part of Bangkok, then about 50 minutes doddling out again on the train. All trains heading north stop at Don Muang.
