YOUNG BURMESE IMMIGRANT WORKER FOUND DEAD IN PATTAYA APARTMENT

On June 2, 2008 a Burmese worker employed by a deckchair and umbrella business on Jomtien Beach was found dead in his room.He was only nineteen and had just started a friendship with a foreign girlfriend.Due to the language barrier, his girlfriend's grandparents had given him some money to study English before they left Thailand.

At 3.30pm on June 2, Pol.Capt.Prapat Bpumalee, Pattaya Investigator, received a call that an immigrant worker had been found dead in his room on Soi Jomtien 3. Police officers along with Sawang Boriboon rescue were sent to investigate.

Arriving at the incident, a 4-storey shop house, many people were gathering around to see what was happening. Officials forced open the room and found Mr. Joy (19) dead. He was wearing blue shorts and was shirtless. There was no sign of attack, but his mobile phone was missing.

Mrs. Wilailuck Aramwong (41), the owner of the deckchair and umbrella business on the beach in front of Jomtien Soi 8, told police that Mr. Joy had been her employee for about 3 months, but he had not shown up for work for 2 days. Suspicious, she had sent her husband over to his room only to find Mr. Joy dead. Mrs. Wilailuck added that he was quite a pleasant young man and had never had problem with anybody. He liked exercising and also had a foreign girlfriend.

One of Mr. Joy's closest friends vouched for the good character of Mr.Joy and told them the circumstances of his relationship with the foreign girlfriend, who had come on holiday with her grandparents earlier this year. Due to the language barrier, her grandparents had given Joy's closest friend some money to give to Joy to study English before they flew back to their home country.

Lately, on May 4, his girlfriend's grandfather had returned to Thailand to see Joy and asked about his studies, but found Joy still could not communicate very well. Accordingly, he had given Joy some more money for further study and for his personal expenses. After that, he flew back on May 29. From the cursory evidence, police suspect the murder was theft related, but are currently unable to be more specific until they have pursued their investigations.

Breaking news

Joy, the victim, was actually found in an externally pad -locked room, putting a completely different complection upon the whole scenerio. The close friend, it transpires, was actually his room mate and has since vanished.

Um.....his girl friend's grandfather and the so-called close friend (if he can be found) need to be stringently questioned.

Murder it most certainly was according to the details in the aforementioned report.

Poor kid. RIP.
