Cbr150 Starter Switch Sfatey Feature

Recommended Posts

hi guys, im from the philippines and i've just joined the forum. obviously my '07 cbr150 is imported from thailand. i bought it last may 9 and it seems somethings wrong with the starter switch safety device that is installed next to the clutch lever...i suppose the bike should not start/crank without depressing the clutch lever. but then i accidentally discovered that my bike cranks and starts at any gear without depressing the clutch, weird? can you help me figure this out please?

My 2003 and 2008 models both came from the same Thai dealer without the clutch relay connected to the starter motor. Several months ago, some local mechanic made the connection (probably just connected two wires), and I got used to having to squeeze the clutch lever to start the old bike (which had serious carb problems). Now the new bike starts without squeezing the clutch, and I prefer that. So I am sure yours could be connected - I suspect the wiring is there.

yes sir i could see 2 wires attached to the clutch gromet just like my suzuki raiderR150. but it's not actually workin, do you think the (manufacturer) just put those wires for nothin?it's not even mentioned in the user's manual-starting procedure... one thing more, my bike arrived last may should it be 08 model not 07?

Checking with my Thai partner who had the repair done, he said it was the idea of the Thai mechanic. We do not know what wiring was involved. I prefer to start the bike in any gear, including neutral, so I do not care that my 2008 comes with the relay not connected.

Don't know about your bike, but it should have a cut-off switch by the gearbox. This will simply look like a single wire going to a nut and screw on the crankcase. Maybe put a voltmeter on this (when the ignition is in the on position) and see if it changes when put into gear. Likewise, check the wires by the clutch lever. I'm not sure why there would need to be a relay in this circuit but, as I've said before, electrics is not my strong point

Hi :o

But be careful - the wire you describe may well be the one for the "neutral" indicator. Usually if there's a device to prevent the engine starting without the clutch being pulled then that is a small switch in the hand lever, similar or identical to the hand brake light switch, and that goes to a relay that is sitting somewhere under the tank or in the headlight.

Best regards.....
