New ferry port planned for Koh Samui

SURAT THANI: -- Thailand's tourist resort island of Samui, or Kho Samui, could get a third ferry port at a cost of Bt200 million to cope with increasing visitors' demand.

The port, to be located around 150 metres from the island’s existing port, will be built by the Ministry of Transport’s Marine Department.

Miss Sumontha Thongpaet, the department’s Deputy Director-General, said yesterday that the new port would respond to the increasing number of people visiting the island each year.

Bidding for the project is expected to begin in November.

So the highest bidder can run off with the money and the port will take 10 years to build.

See new road system in Chaweng or pier in Big Budda for comparison.

Will follow this with interest.
