Well my brother is travelling to Thailand in Sept on a tour and has asked me about entering Vietnam from Thailand. He's taking a bus tour and will be entering by land, I presume through Cambodia. Has anyone done anything similar?

I'm going to check the Vietnamese embassy website but thought I would also ask for other peoples' experiences.

The main question, is it possible to get a visa on arrival if arriving by bus at a border checkpoint into Vietnam, or should he queue at the embassy in Bangkok and get one there?

Many thanks for any replies.

That depends upon your brothers nationality, check Viet embassy website first, as Visa on arrival is only permitted for all nationals from ASEAN countries, then Japan, Korea and nationals from some Scandinavian countries, better double check latest updates to be safe.

I think visas on arrival are only possible if you are arriving by 'plane.

There's never a queue at the VN Embassy in Bangkok.

You have to specify your entry point into the country, and exit point if you are exiting from a different point.
