Thanks...

I've been having the same considerations .... Fortuna v CRV v Captiva.

I'm unlikely to do much off-roading, so I'm leaning towards the CRV as it leads on air-baggery and other active safety features, but just looking at the specs and having had a quick drive in each, I reckon the Fortuna 3.0 v is way ahead of the CRV or the Captiva in off-road ability?

If you are doing any serious off road work I would have thought it was no contest?

On road, the Captiva has a better ride than the Fortuna and is more car like. The Captiva and CRV are so similar someone must have copied off the other. The only way I can tell them apart without looking at the badges is that the Captiva has a little air vent on the side! I think the Captiva is also more expensive than a CRV and it's slightly bigger?

Getting proper test drives is not easy, so I'm doing 'serial hiring' of each before I decide which to buy.

Fortuna is good off road , which I need sometimes , but not so comfotable for on road driving - CRV- I owned in the past , was useless off road and I prefer the styling of the Captiva - I do need some off road ability and will be taking the captiva for a test drive and as long as it is better than the CRV , I think that will be my prefered choice .

Am interested to hear of other views .

There was a thread a while back here about the Chevy, along with some reviews from the Thai and Western press. Think it's more of a CRV rather than a Fortuner (off-road I mean). Also check out the new Pajero Sport that's about to be released.

If you're not totally bored of the Fortuner, found this link to Toyota Thailand's press release on the 2008 Fortuner as well which is just being introduced now. Looks like they've added tons of goodies inside, uprated the suspension and introduced traction control, VSC and better brakes too. Sounds pretty good, but I'm wondering if the new larger wheel size will impede off-roading at the expense of better on-road comfort (worrying about wheel-well to wheel clearance - like you I need competent off-road characteristics).
