Celtic 3 Aberdeen 1

Celtic moved 7 points clear with this win today. A lively 1st half saw both sides with chances . Griffiths was just wide as Celtic pressed but Rooney was dangerous for Aberdeen on a few occasions. Boyata had a header taken off the line via the bar from one of several Celtic corners. Ward made an excellent save from Griffiths. But just before half time the breakthrough came and it was a beauty. An impressive Tierney with an excellent cross for Griffiths leaping high between 2 defenders to guide a superb header into the corner.

Celtic made it 2 early in the 2nd half when Griffiths netted a penalty awarded for a foul on Commons. It has to be said it was a mindless challenge by Taylor who dived in when there was no immediate danger. Forrest made it 3 shortly afterwards when he clipped the ball past a defender after a fine run by Rogic and glanced it past the keeper into the corner. Celtic had several shots afterwards but all were straight at the keeper. Gordon made a great block on the line from Pawlett. With 2 minutes to go Rooney rose high to head a free kick past Gordon but the game was in safe keeping at that stage. You could even relax when you saw the dreaded pair Ambrose and Izaguirre come on as subs with 20 minutes to go. Only worry was Jozo going off injured and hopefully he will be available on Thursday to stiffen up our defense.

You've improved massively since the last game with Aberdeen I must say...good win!

I think your team has choked smokeswhistling.gif

As an Arbroath fan I reckon there can't be anyone who detests the Granite city lot more than us....36-0...36-0....even Celtic couldn't manage that yesterday! clap2.gif

Are you ready for Molde on Thursday? This is Ronny Deilas chance to answer the critics from fans. Not many clubs will fire their manager after winning the league but Celtic is not happy with just one title this year. I have a good feeling you will win on Thursday.

Celtic 1 Molde 2

Another very poor display from Celtic with the usual defensive frailties as well as being obvious and slow in the build up. Griffiths headed wide under pressure early on. In the 9th minute Simunovic had to off injured and you shuddered when you you saw Blackett on to replace him. Celtic had 2 goals disallowed rightly for offside against Griffiths. Blackett and Boyata were far too casual (surprise ) and almost gave away a goal after 15 minutes. Hoiland had a great chance for the visitors but a poor touch allowed Gordon to collect. Molde had not to wait too long to score . A defensive header by Blackett fell to Elyounoussi and in the absence of a challenge he was able to control and fire past Gordon. Celtic got back level 5 minutes later when Bittons shot was deflected by Commons into the corner wrong footing the keeper. After Griffiths gave the ball away Tierney made an excellent saving tackle. The young man was Celtic's best player by a mile. Molde forced a corner after a typically stupid foul by Johansen. From the corner Rogic at the far post was easily forced off the ball by the goal scorer and his cross at the far post was forced in by the 40 y/o Hested reacting more smartly than Blackett. Lustig had a good chance near half time but failed to made a decent contact.

Commons came off at halftime with a hamstring and was replaced by Forrest. Blackett was easily beaten on the end line but ball was cleared for a corner. Tierney showing desire sadly missing in most had a good effort. Around the hour mark the Molde goalie made 2 excellent saves. The Norwegians continued to look far sharper when they broke in contrast to the nearly always laborious play of Celtic. In another breakaway Bitton deservedly was red carded for a foul on the attacker who was racing on to the ball. Not a surprise as Bitton nearly always finds difficulty in thinking. Molde saw it out without any trouble to the displeasure of the faithful.

While it is possible mathematically to qualify we can forget it as Celtic are certain to give Ajax every chance of winning in 3 weeks and ditto away to Fenerbache.

You just need to beat Ajax and Fehnerbache , but I would not put my money on it.

Overall it was a poor performance , you'd expect Celtic to win at home.

But after watching a few Scottish premier league games this season, I am not so sure the Norwegian league is any worse , I am not surprised.

Ross County 1 Celtic 4

Celtic reopened the 6 point gap with a comfortable win . Doubts about the defence remain however. Boyce had a free header after 10 minutes but headed wide with only Gordon to beat. Celtic had more of the play but they created very little until Rogic put them ahead in the 37th minute. Lustig made a run infield and fed the Aussie who from just outside the box fired in a beauty.

Knowing our defensive deficiencies it was good to more or less put the game to bed with an early double in the 2nd half. Griffiths fired in after availing of a slip from a RC defender in 54 minutes and scored again 2 minutes later after a great run by Forrest and a well placed cut back. RC got one back in 59 minutes when the appropriately named Dingwall shot home. Gordon made an excellent save later as County threatened to get back into the game. Bitton made certain with an angled header from a corner with 15 minutes to go. Cole was on the bench and it was disappointing that Cifti was brought on rather than him in the closing stages.

Celtic 1 Ajax 2.

Another European defeat leaves us making the trip to Istanbul in 2 weeks for a dead game. Another good start and after 4 minutes McGregor receiving in midfield availing of plenty of room beat a defender and curled a beauty past Cilessen from just outside the area into the corner. Ajax soon got into their stride and were unfortunate when they were incorrectly flagged for offside when they hammered home in 11minutes. They were level within 6 minutes when McGregor's poor control gave possession to the Dutch. A shot from Schone was deflected and although Gordon got a block on the rebound the ball ended with Milik who hooked it home. It emphasized how much quicker the Dutch were in speed of thought and movement. It was very much Ajax for the remainder of the half apart from one or two Celtic attacks.

Ajax continued to have the better of things for the 1st half of the 2nd half without causing 2 many anxious moments. Mulgrew replaced Rogic. McGregor nearly scored again with a lucky deflection off a shot. The ball spiralled upwards and hit the top of the bar before going over. Allan came on with 15 minutes to go and he put Griffiths through but Cilessen made a fine block for a corner. With Fenerbache leading 2-0 in Norway both sides knew they had to win and both went for it. Ajax hit the post in the 84th minute just after Mulgrew headed over under pressure form a corner. Celtic forced a corner and Allan was caught dwelling on the ball. With most of Celtic upfield Ajax broke quickly and Cerny put through beat Gordon at his near post for the winner.A draw would have been useless in any case but it was disappointing to lose again after a better performance.

Overall we have been very poor in our European adventure killing ourselves with giving away easy goals and a lack of imagination in our play. Since the glory days of reaching the last 16 in the CL we have been going steadily backwards.

I wonder what would happen if the Scottish league was offered to join the English league . Would Celtic be good enough for premier league football in England ?

Simple truth is they would buy better players.

ICT 1 Celtic 3

Another 3 points today . McGregor once again came up with an early goal . Given plenty of room he motored through from midfield and after a quick look decided to shoot from outside the box. It was a well placed shot into the corner which beat the home goalie. Caley were almost level 2 minutes later from a corner but Gordon blocked the ball with his chest. The home team had more of the play without really troubling Celtic, who had one or two efforts themselves. Caley equalized 6 minutes before half time when Armstrong's poor control gave away possession and

Storey put through held off Boyata, rode a tackle from Simunovic, and went on to beat Gordon from the rebound of his first shot which fell nicely for him. His persistence was praiseworthy but Boyata was very poor in the build up and easily brushed off the ball for such a big man.

Caley restarted well and Draper headed just wide. Allan replaced Armstrong after 10 minutes and within 4 minutes helped to put Celtic back in front. He put Tierney away wide. The full back cut the ball back superbly from the end line for Griffiths to hammer it into the roof of the net. The young full back continues to impress as indeed does Allan who looks much better than Armstrong on current form. Then we had a first glimpse of Carlton Cole and he forced a good save from the Caley goalie. He looked slow and showed all the signs of someone who has played little football for months. Johansen headed off the line to prevent a 2nd equalizer before Celtic clinched it with a bizarre 3rd with 5 minutes to go. The goalie blocked but could not hold a shot from Griffiths and Cole poked the rebound goalwards. he fell in a heap with Devine and the ball rolled off him via his hand and the unfortunate Devine deflected it into his own net. Unlikely to be a canidate for goal of the season.

Given that the game was in doubt due to poor weather until a morning inspection it was good to get the game played and get out of there with the points. But the defensive concerns remain and while we can get away with it in the league we will always be vulnerable in the knock out competitions.

Fenerbache 1 Celtic 1.

Celtic finished an underwhelming campaign with a draw in Istanbul. Once again we presented the opposition with a goal. The culprit was Gordon who made a dreadful error in not clearing and allowing Marovic to slot home from a tight angle in the 39th minute, He had made a few good saves earlier. But you have to say he has been far below his form of last year when he single handedly got us into the knock out stages of the Europa League. Cifti on for an injured Griffiths who did not start had a good chance when through but was far too slow and allowed a defender to get back to rob him.

Halfway through the 2nd half Diego kicked Johansen right in front of the ref and was sent off. With the extra man Celtic had more of the closing stages and Commons on as a sub headed a superb goal from a good cross from Lustig to level. Despite further pressure Celtic were unable to get another.

So ends another European campaign in which the Bhoys unfailingly killed themselves by giving away soft goals regularly.

Celtic's "manager" blaming everyone but himself in a slightly doctored piece from the DR.

Dildo Deila has today hit out at the media and insisted they’re to blame for the pressure he’s under.

A section of the Celtic support want the manager axed after he failed to guide his team to a single group stage win in Europe this season and lost at home to Motherwell at the weekend , a defeat that saw the Hoops’ lead at the top of the Premiership cut to a single point.

Celtic have a game in hand over second-placed Aberdeen and still have the chance to land the Treble and Deila insists he can’t understand the focus that is trained on him.
