What price range? The Federal on Sukumvit Soi 11 is baht 1,300 a night and a decent enough place, with a pretty good and cheap coffee shop. www.federalbangkok.com

Actually just about anyplace on Sukumvit would be OK as you can take the Skytrain to the Ploenchit Station and walk to the embassy if 5-10 minutes from there. Probably better than a taxi at 0630-0700 hrs, morning rush hour, etc.

I am not sure your budget but for around US$ 75 you can get a nice room at the Chateau de Bangkok (managed by the French Accor hotel chain) on soi Ruam Rudi. I just stayed here and the rooms are very nice...it's actually a serviced apartment so a small living area, kitchen and large bathroom with jacuzzi (if superior room).

Ruam Rudi is the little soi parallel to Wireless (the back wall of the ACS part of the embassy actually is on Ruam Rudi but there is no public entrance there). There is direct access to the All Seasons Place complex of restaurants and shops, which is right accros the street from the hotel, and it's a 5 minute walk to the entrance to the ACS section. There is access to Ruam Rudi from both Sukhumvit and Wireless roads, which makes getting in and out easy.

Thanks for the additional response.

The early morning thing is what is making me try to book close to the embassy.

I will do a search and see if there is a schedule for the sky train.

I am only staying in bangkok 1 day so I was just looking in the 1500 baht range plus or minus.

At that price point, I would recommend the Majestic Suites. This is a small botique hotel on Sukhumvit between the Landmark Hotel and soi 4. Rooms are small but very clean and comfortable...fine for just 1 nite. Don't worry about it being on Sukhumvit as there is double glazing so very quiet. Rates are right in your ballpark. Another bonus is that the owners also own the Majestic Grande Hotel down soi 2 (big new plush hotel with rates from B 3000-6000) but as a guest of Suites hotel, you are welcome to use the fitness center and pool/sauna at the Grande (10 minute walk or 2 minute taxi away).

The ACS at the embassy is easy to reach from Majestic Suites...just 5 minute ride (depending on traffic) down Sukkie and turn left at Wireless and down a bit (any taxi driver knows the way...just say "Amercan Embassy...Wittayu."

Jim's Lodge on Soi Ruam Rudee. Like was said before, it's on the backside of the Embassy and it would require a walk down the street and around the corner, 10 minutes. Good luck

I wonder why nobody has recommended Conrad yet?

It's right next to the US embassy. :o

Jim's Lodge 1200 baht

Conrad 6000 baht

we report, you decide

I've always used Jim's Lodge as well when I need to go to the Embassy. It's an easy walk and there are several good restaurant choices on Soi Ruam Rudee for dinner.

There's a nice-looking guesthouse on Langsuan soi 5. I'll post the name & link tomorrow.

From there, you walk up Langsuan 5, through the Satthorn building's parking lot, and you're at the US Embassy. If your meeting is @ the consular services annex, you'll also need to cross the street (Witthayu). Less than 5 minutes walking time.

Somebody mentioned the Capehouse Apts in an earlier post. I live next door to them, between the Cape House Apts & the Starbucks on Soi Langsuan -- it's about a 15-20 minute walk from the US Embassy. My guess (though I've never checked) is that Capehouse Apts are expensive on a nightly basis. I think they start at 60K baht/month, and go much higher.
