Dont know if many of you regular Issan posters have noticed this, but in our small town [pop approx 6000] i see and have met 2/3 new falangs every week, they are not the travel to teach ones, but older guys with a young lady.

So what brings them here? im thinking that when i came here 2 years ago, [retired] and had a new salon and living above built that the more educated pretty thai ladies got on the internet and found a BF who could possibly do the same for them, or definitely give them a better lifestyle than if married to a thai?

We have a lot of local girls come to mrs salon, and want to talk english with us, because they say, oh, im chatting with falang on internet and i want to talk good english when he calls me on mobile,

Have any of you seen more falangs recently?

I have noticed the same in Surin and surrounding areas. Along with them, I have also noticed an increase in beautiful Thai ladies asking me if I have any friends who want a TGF to live with here in Issan.

Hi Dave, Yes, i get the same questions too, what i do wonder {and never ask a falang} is are they here on a "suprise" visit?

Its a fact there are many poor people in Issan,and will encourage their pretty daughters to make money for family, whatever it takes, Family comes first.

I think Internet Cafe's/home P.C.'s are busier too. I have met a number of guys who met their wives/GF's through dating sites that were not so popular &/or trusted years ago. I also know a few girlies with more than one identity on said sites

The official number in Surin province alone is 6,000 falangs (number taken from Gov web-site last year), but I think that is a little inflated. I suspect though there are at least 4,500 in our province, with,as you say more moving here every week. In the restaurant we get around 20 new signings in our guest book every week, and I think one can safely say 25% of them are here to stay (at least for a while) And as Dave rightly says (and he should know) it seems every beautiful girl in the area wants a Falang of her own.( or at least part of him )

I see many more up where I live also and my village is a stones throw to Laos. A girl in the village just had a guy from Florida visit who she met on the internet just 3 months ago.

Few teachers at the school I used to work at had themselves a nice little earner on the side translating for these girls on the internet. Much of it went under my nose when the teachers couldn't understand all of it either! Some of the things I've seen!! Wonder if these guys have any idea their personal emails are being passed around all and sundry for amusement as much as anything else? Could only imagine the shock being met at the airport by the whole family, entourage and hangers on, to find that nobody speaks a word of English, especially the g/f you've been conversing with for the last year!

Maybe, just maybe, the reason why you observe this: places like Phuket or Pattaya have now prices that you rather sleep alone then "have fun" (or go to Cambodia right away).

Also with the girls now easily reachable by internet/phone, why would you want to go to a bar to meet your dream girl (we all know, those are the bad girls that will rip you off, only the 'good girls' are online :-)

I'm shocked .. you mean to say that some of these lovely girlies are not telling the whole truth

I must admit there seems to be a lot more farangs about, but what surprises me is when they put birthdays on the TV site a lot of them seem to be in their 20's or 30's. I know they don't all necessary live in LOS but I have seen quite a few younger guys about and wonder how they have accumulated enough cash to bail out at such an early age!

I have also noticed a lot more farang up here, moreso in the city, still only me in the village. Most are older gentlemen with a young dolly on their arm. Internet dating seems to have lured a few of them and see one or two of the

 Pattaya crowd staggering around in the middle of the day.

If you travel amout 20km south of Surin city, you will get to Prasat - Its on the Junction of Hwy 24 and 214. Plenty of Farangs there and plenty to do.

I been seeing a lot more Farangs around in Buriram for years now. When I first went to my (now Wife's ) village in 2001 there were people there that had never ever seen a farang before. You'd be lucky to see 1 or 2 in BuriRam city, and those were mainly teachers. I use to live in Hua Hin and quite a few of the older guys have built a small house and moved up to Issan with their Thai wives/girlfriends. I think the big thing is cost especially for pensioners. One can live quite cheaply upcountry. After I had lived in Thailand for a few years my wants were simple, food,a few big Changs. Good for me when we return in a few years there may be some Farangs around.

I live in between Surin and Presart and have NEVER been out for the night in Presart, what is there to do and where?? . I only see the fleets of vehicles traveling in the opposite direction towards Surin each weekend!
