Croatia fined over racism

Fifa have fined the Croatian Football Federation £14,920 over the racist behaviour of some of their fans during the World Cup qualifier against England.

England striker Emile Heskey was singled out by sections of the crowd at the Maksimir Stadium in Zagreb as Fabio Capello's side romped to a 4-1 victory on 10th September.

The Football Association lodged an official complaint with Fifa and world football's governing body have now issued the fine of €30,000.

No place

A statement from Fifa said: "Racism has no place in football.

"Fifa is determined to continue broadcasting this message around the globe and deploying all of the means at its disposal to eliminate this form of discrimination."

The Croatia federation was punished in June for fans' racism at the European Championship.

They were fined 20,000 Swiss francs (€12,570) after European governing body Uefa ruled they showed racist conduct towards Turkey supporters in the Euro 2008 quarter-final.

i wonder if fifa will ever one day pull its finger out of its collective arse and bring fines for this type of neanderthal behaviour into the twentieth century? how can you take a game remotely seriously when its regulatory bodies are so pathetic?

Ahhh FIFA isnt that run by a certain anti English corrupt racist called Jack Warner.

The Serbs couldnt do anything about racism in Croatia, so i dont see how FIFA can.

no, fifa is run by a swiss national, sepp blatter. jack warner is head of concacaf.

ignoring your ridiculous serbs comparison, fifa can fine the croatian fa a sensible and substantial amount for failing to control supporters within a ground and / or for inadequate policing of an international football event.

there's no incentive for these national fas to get their houses in order. tell them that following each incident like this they'll play their next three home qualifying matches behind closed doors or at a neutral venue, meaning tens and hundreds of thousands in lost revenues, and they'd soon jump.

Jack Warner is vice-president of FIFA.

The Serb analogy showed that serious hatred of others is existent in Croatia.

A fine of 1 million euro wouldnt change the way people think in Croatia about others disimilar to themselves, but it'd be a good way to push it under the rug.
