I read in the Phuket Gazette:

Kamala OrBorTor Vice President Santi Atthasap oversees the destruction of some 100 illegal structures that were clogging up a 4-kilometer-long stretch of beachfront.

"Most of the shops were tour shops, restaurants and bars. The people who ran them knew they were on public property, but insisted on squatting. They took the opportunity to encroach on public land during the gap between election periods," said Mr Santi.

"This beach is public property and belongs to everybody. Some 50 entrepreneurs have no more right to use it than anyone else in the district – including tourists. Besides, no permission to operate there was ever granted by the OrBorTor. We have to remove these structures before the situation gets even worse," he said.

The encroachers had built nearly 100 structures along a stretch of beach about 4 kilometers long, he said.

THIS SOUNDS STUPID HE IS THE ORBORTOR PRESIDENT AND HE SAYS 4 KILOMETER OF BEACH!!! KAMALA BEACH IS NOT EVEN 2 KILOMETRES!! IS THIS A NEW WAY TO PROMOTE PHUKET?

Your topic is about right, nip it in the bud. Illegal usage of Public Land is wrong. But your problem is with the actual measurement of said beach?

"THIS SOUNDS STUPID" Dude, you sound stupid. Do you really think he went out there and measured the actual beach? Have you? Are you sure he isn't meaning a 4k area, with a beach included?

Why don't you stop wasting time posting here, and go ASK THE MAN FOR YOURSELF. Do you need other people to agree with you before you go? Better yet, go out and re-measure it. Just to be sure. Be accurate and precise because before we light our torches, and go blindly down the road protesting this travesty, this outright nonsense, we need to make sure we are correct.

May I suggest Sun Block, a measuring tape, and legal pad and pen. And do it twice, starting from both sides, just to be sure.

I've never measured exactly but I think from Rockfish restaurant to the complete other end of Kamala Beach could be nearly 4KMs.

Depending on the way the sentence reads, it could be taken as the whole stretch of Kamala Beach is 4KM's and there are nearly 100 illegal structures on this beach.

I'd say the prices on real estate in the PG are more disturbing than this article.
