Shop Fee's

Featured Replies

Well my bike finally showed up to a shop several people recommended for VFR's and my GF went over to talk to the owner about work and a deposit.

Beside my green book needing to be sorted, she was told they wanted a 20000baht deposit before working on it... I may be a cheap bastard but that seems astronomical when all i want them to do is look into what the story is with the engine. What do you guys say?

Sounds dodgy to me. 20k for deposit on engine inspection?

yer thats bloody stupid. new engine fully installed is cheaper than that ..............jeeeeeeeezze

Well the GF clarified that the shop assumed that i wanted to have all the new panels painted. So the price was meant to cover that as well.. We will see as they said they were going to break downt the pricing for me via email, either way it should be interesting!

still bloody expensive bike respray is only about 4-6thou. then jap 2nd hand engine 12-14thou then fitting 2thou. done 20thou ish.

or something like it anyway lol :o

Well did some more interpreting and it turns out they already did the tear down and found my inlet valves bent, hence the blowby i was observing.

They are charging me 30000 to rebuild the top end, new valves, clutch, lower radiator, spark plugs, wires, oil change, labor, body assembly and registration. while steap, i had figured that as the cost when i discovered the blowby so I had already set it aside. On the up side without me asking they informed me of things i knew where wrong that werent obvious, filling me with a sense they DO have clue. So in the end if it gets my baby back to screaming to 16000 rpm i can cope with the cost.

Wrath did you say thats including the registration(green book)? if so pretty cheap. also what bent the valve in the 1st place. also make sure you have the airfilter back in Thai mechanics have a habit of leaving them out if a bit dirty rather than replacing .... go figure.

At the high end of the range but if they are competent then it is probably worth it..

registration and tax, not the green book though. Actually they came unglued since it didnt have a filter when they got it as it was not running at that point any ways. They seem pretty competent though.

You dont like it huh? I like it better than the stock, and the frames are much lighter to boot! I am guessing they didnt like my maggot exhaust since they changed the muffler hahahah.

well after getting the top end built and installing all my parts i opted to get everything powdercoated. Everything will be powdercoated black, wheels, frame, triple clamps. The other items like engine covers and forks will be redone. Here is the kicker, after giving me a price they tore the bike down and bead blasted everything for painting. NOW i get a price of 110000 baht for paint, repairs, tires, clutch and gaskets and valves. This really irked me since they gave me one price then doubled it once they had it apart. I have already paid 30000 so i am at a loss. If i had seen that amount from the get go i would have bought a ninja!

Well if i were you i would only pay the original quote. unless they can prove they have done extra. And even then i wouldnt pay them double.

If ya have to pay then ok.

But me i would get some banners and posters made and hang them around the area, also name and shame them on every bike forum in Thailand.

Lastly sorry to hear about ya problems. Allan

I guess i shouldnt bitch, have the bike i want with almost every part i want. With cost of bike, parts and repairs 199000 baht. hmmm

Wrath you bitching about the Thai robbing bastards we understand. and i know what you mean, got quoted 13.000 to rebuild my engine then when i collect its gone up to 16500 so i say why, it need new fuel pump (<deleted> did it) so i pay and 2 days later the home made! head gasket fails, so back i go with original new head gasket. the guy says this no good, i say fit it ya fuc_king idiot. SO what does he do makes his own and doesnt fit the real original honda part!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 weeks later the engine blows again. (now i have a 2nd hand jap import engine in it)

morale of the story. it's happened to us all and i hope you have an excellent bike where they have at least earned the money. good luck with it Allan
