Transferring Visa To New Passport

Featured Replies

Hi,

The wife's Thai passport is expiring so she needs to get a new one. She has a 10 yr tourist visa from USA in the passport. Is it an ornery process getting it over the new passport?

Any experience or information is appreciated.

For UK Immigration you can get it changed over, there is no real need, just carry both PP's, fairly sure this is right for U.S too.

Good luck

From US embassy website.

Q: My passport has expired, but it has a valid US visa inside. What do I do?

A: If your passport containing a still valid visa has expired, you may travel with two passports - your expired passport containing the valid U.S. visa and your unexpired passport.

Absolutely correct, my Thai wife has made several U.S. trips with two passports, and with the 10-year visa in the expired passport. NOT a problem.

I have often been wondering...

I have a U.S. nonimmigrant visa in my expired passport. The visa was issued in 1991 and is

"valid for MULTIPLE applications for entry until INDEFINITELY".

I don't really need a visa when visiting the U.S., but is my visa still good?

No

What are indefinite validity visas (Burroughs visas) and are they still valid?

Indefinite validity visas (Burroughs Visas) are tourist/business visas manually stamped into a traveler’s passport which were valid for ten years. Effective April 1, 2004, all indefinite validity Burroughs visas became void. Therefore, if you have an indefinite validity visa you must apply for a new visa for travel to the U.S.
