Opening Bank Account For 'interest Group'

Featured Replies

I am setting up a website and 'community' for those in Thailand who have an interest in a specific subject, (the subject matter itself is not important).

This special interest group is purely an unofficial, small community. I have no intention of registering it as a non-profit organisation etc. But members of this group will pay small dues ceach month (typically 100 baht), and can purchase specialist books via this group at a discounted rate.

Put aside all issues about needing a work permit - I can just as easily list a Thai person as founder/administrator of this group.

But I want to know if an unregistered group such as this can open a Thai bank account in the name of that group, so that any member revenues can be held in an identifiable bank account.

Of course, a limited company, registered sole-trader or registered non-profit organisation can open a bank account in the name of that business. But what about an unregistered 'group'?

If it is not allowed to open a bank account in the name of this group (even for a Thai person), what would be the best way to open a bank account that can hold members' dues, and that allows all members to have complete visibility of the transactions/balance of that account?

Thanks

Simon
