Looking For A Teaching Job

Featured Replies

PB - Is this ok to post on the forum?

I'm looking around for a full-time teaching job in Thailand. Have MSc, BSc and TEFL qualifications. My degrees are in IT and electronics, and I'm a very practical guy concerning multimedia and computers. I have previous experience of teaching English to both Prathom and adults, both in Thailand and in the UK/Europe.

Although I've applied for a number of vacancies on A...com, I haven't had any interest as yet. I have lived in Thailand for 6 years now and have 4 young children. Available at a few days' notice.

Please PM me if you know of a vacancy. I'm open as to most locations. Phuket is not one of them, but Bangkok and other central/north Thailand locations are fine.

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon

I am in a similar position looking in the Phetchabun area, I think what you have to do is to get dressed up in your interview gear, go to the schools and universities with your CV and qualifications and ask for the head of the English department. This is what I shall be doing once I have finished my TEFL course. I should think with your computer skills and experience then you shouldn't have any problem finding work.

I have been repeatedly told that their are twice as many vacancies as their are qualified candidates, but looking at A-----.com, as you have, that doesn't appear to be the case!

Good luck with your search

The jobs website at ajarn dot com does not have all the openings, especially for advanced positions, but it has the most job listings. The second semester started already, so most of the desirable positions should have been filled already. Also, April-May is the main hiring season.

Yes, I think knocking on doors is the only solution. My local bilingual primary in Phuket is currently (and is always) advertising for staff (they do have a high turnover...). For whatever reason, they don't reply to job applications from a degree holder with TEFL, speaking Thai and living just 10km down the road from them :o

PB - I think you are correct!

Anyway, bearing in mind my rather urgent need to start earning some money, I am coming up to BKK thia week to visit the language schools with my CV/degree certificates etc. I have applied for a couple of IT jobs in BKK, but am still awaiting feedback. so working part-time/contract for a language school would seem to be the best initial route forward.

I'll let you know hoe I get on :o

Simon

Simon, would you not be better off trying to get some agency work until nearer the next term? It seems a bit late in the year. Best of luck anyway.

Hi Garro, yes that is my intention and I was just about to pop up to BKK for a few days to visit the various language schools with my CV. But PAD, (who perhaps have shares in various schools and feared for a share-price nosedive) have thwarted my attempts by closing the airport :o

I'll wait a few days until (hopefully) things quieten down and then come to BKK.

Simon

Good luck with your search Simon, I for one sincerely hope that the current probems in Bangkok are soon resolved.

I am going to hit the streets of Phetchabun tomorrow for a look around in my area

Chris

Check on TV, the fellow saying he is in the business of supplying English teachers to 100+ Thai schools and the airport shut down is ruining his business as people can not get where they are needed.
