We are nearing the completion of our house build in Nakhon Ratchasima province (Pak Chong area) and want to install some really good quality entrance gates and railings to the property. We would prefer to use wrought iron, but at a push will use steel. Does anyone know a good local company who can supply and install excellent quality iron or steel gates and railings?

There seem to be plenty of small workshops around but from what i've seen the quality is very poor.

Hi Stewart, is it possible you could oversee the work and build quality you want? perhaps you could find a workshop that has a ZINC tank, ie, after they make gates ect, they are dipped in the tank for 24 hours, this will definitley stop rust ect for many years, and also you can paint over the zinc silver to whatever coulor you like,

Also if they use electric stick welders, the weld must be perfect and all shale removed, with a Mig welder, this is not so important, as Mig doesnt make shale, Hope this helps,

Apart from the above, im sorry i dont know of any places near you for the work you need,

Cheers, Lickey.

I haven't seen wrought iron in Thailand. The common fence sections/gates made in small workshops are either steel or steel frames combined with decorative alloy mouldings. Some of the steel offerings feature strips bent into scrolled patterns that resemble wrought iron. Most firms do not galvanize the finished product (which of course would not work with alloy), and when I asked about this for my own fence the supplier said it was not available locally, which may or may not be true. The gate and fence sections I bought in Khon Kaen were of the steel/alloy type and - despite assurances they would never rust - need regular painting to stop this happening, especially on some of the welded joints. The lacquer and filler used to give a finished appearance is prone to cracking, which does not help. The other alternative which I have seen and like is stainless steel. This is a lot more expensive but is the best product available here.
