Paint Over Wood Stain

Featured Replies

I've just had the floors sanded and restained after already decorating,,, maybe the wrong order!!

The problem is there is some stain on the newly painted skirting boards

Trying to just touch them up with new gloss paint doesn't cover the brown easily

Any ideas of a quick fix or have I got to sand the stain off

Cheers

Most stains are oil based, and most paints are water based.

So your gloss paint is most likely a water-based paint, well water and oil just don’t mix/adhere to each other very well.

So you have 2 options:

First option: – apply a primer over those oops areas, then your gloss paint over it

Second option: - buy gloss paint w/ an oil based, instead of water based

Suggestion:

If your board is light color, best use option #1

Unless you want to sand the opps off first, however too time consuming in your case, but it's the correct way to do

Best of luck :o
