I went around with Philip today & he is the real deal.

I bought a set of Mitsu GTO brakes & a bigger turbo.

Forget which model but it's Garrett.

Now to get all this stuff fitted up & a full exhaust that breathes.

Grant there is a new article in the motoring section of the BKK post about the new diesel focus. It will also have a new semi auto gearbox this time around! Price is 1.099M I think. Might be worth checking out...

Done test-drive 2.0 turbo diesel with manual gearbox - very nice performance and fast enough.

But restyle not available with manual gearbox - automatic only.

Anyway my Civic in garage already and prepared to receive nice K20A:

i always multitask, and my full attenation is not my spelling but rather communicating and answering what people ask for.

RICK: you bought a Garrett m24 ar.50 :o (check out what is max power on it, then -30% thats its potential for diesels.)

Hey Philipm, been spellbound reading through this thread got to hand it to ya you really know your job inside out.

I'm looking at buying vigo3lt 4x4 beginning of Jan would really love to mod it up a bit nothing to fancy, just more power

and better suspension going to be using it as a main motor and don't want to put to much strain on the engine just

want to be able to have a bit of fun every now and again.

what would you recommend mate.

i would recommend the new coilover suspensions for your soon to be Vigo 4x4, this shock is a 35mm rod, super quick damping, rideheight adjustable, and for the rear shock, it also comes with a spring, in the shock. " a rear coilover", it can be made either soft, medium or stiff, by users specification.

that takes care of your suspensions.

in reagard to the motor, how much hp and tq are you wanting?

if its about 200hp that can be just done with the advanced piggybacks i have, with a simple boost cut.

though if you want around 240-250hp your gona need to change turbo, intercooler, pipes, downpipe, cat and muffler, external wastegate, boost controller.

what would you be looking for?

If i go for the 240-250 what would it set me back including the suspension.

And would i need to sit her on new rubber and rims.

PS do you think it would be worth while looking for a good second hand one with low kms

considering i will be voiding the warranty when spec'ed up, i now trucks hold there money well here in Thailand.

Or even better how would you go about it seen as i haven't purchased the vigo yet, i could be swayed if it works out

more beneficial price wise, just remember I'm not after a drag racer just something a cut above the rest that looks good :o

personally i would buy the 2nd hand perfect condition Vigo, as you said, moding it will void the warrenty, thus why waste the extra 200,000k for a new one when you can get everything you want with that aditional price.

you dont need to change rubbers, im still using std rubber, though i am upgrading soon to 265/75/r16 BF A/T, but thats because mine are quite worn out.

keep your std rims are fine, larger brakes can fit on there to.

i can say 200k will be all you need to turn your vigo into something else!

Hello gents,

I'm writing from Cambodia although I spend a lot of time in Thailand. I'm wondering if someone can point me in the right direction in finding the following for a left hand drive, Toyota Landcruiser 80/LX450, 1997.

-4"-6" suspension kit (with arms, DC DS, correction plates or arms, heavy coils, LT shocks)

-35" or larger tires

-Steel rims to accomodate the tires

-Snorkel, preferably OEM or Safari

I've sent an email to the Thailand landcruiser club but no answer.

Also, a little off subject, does anybody know if its easy to drive my car from Cambodia into Thailand? Even for a short time? The procedures? I know its not too hard to drive from Thailand into Cambodia but haven't found anything for the other wayaround.

Hello Philipm, need your help in this.

I'm from Malaysia, my ride, a 2.5L Vigo (the one we got here are not intercooled) needs further tuning.

I have a Peak Power box and a boost cut module, front mount 1kd-ftv OEM intercooler and irrelevant stuffs like 16" rollers and upgraded shocks. The rest are pretty much stock except a SQV blow off valve.

The problem is, no matter how much i tune (those Bangkok guys drove down to meet us at Haddyai in their 200bhp Fortuner), i still can't get good HP. Are they sticking to a safe range for engine longevity? From the response and speed achieved, i reckon the engine is giving approximately 130-ish bhp running @18psi of boost.Pretty much as fast as a lightly tuned 2.5 Triton. How can i get more from the engine? From your experience, is 22psi safe for an auto tranny? if so, do i need to upgrade my ECU box or I just need to pump up the juice?

in regards to your other questions, 200hp fortuners are most defentially under safe range for longativity. the diesel engines are very crude and are packed with all heavy duty engine component. being able to handle over ton towing weight and its simple pratcality, not to menation its low rpm range, all compute to having a nearly industrutable engine block. these engine can handel in excess of 45PSI 3bar OF BOOST.

though you are in the same boat as me, as my triton is also an automatic. so far mate i boost at 28psi. about 1.9bar, but thats with a complete turbo, header etccccccccc change. tranmission std though, 4 speed automatic.

so in that regards run 22-psi is fine. but realise that much more than that will actually be inefficient,

as the turbo low cfm and low spin ratings, exceeding over 22psi on std turbo will actually be inefficient as it actually makes less air volume then you would then lets say 20psi.

personally i think there must be something wronge if all you have is 130hp. hummm are you sure yours is a commonrail? or is it the std type diesel?

after knowing that i can suggest a package for you.

The only engine available here is the 102bhp 2KD-FTV engine, non-intercooled common-rail diesel engine or the 2.7L vvti pertol engine (but only for fortuners).

They started offering the D4-D engine since the launch of the previous Hilux Tiger. Before that, it was the 2.8L Diesel Turbo mechanical pump fed.

The 130 bhp is just a guess, never had the guts to dyno my truck, since it is still an unfinshed article. Could be mechanical loss caused by our Toyota gearbox, but 0-100kph is still within the 12s range. My previous Mitsubishi L200 did the sprint in 17s. I know i can't expect much from just tuning the standard engine, so I am needing all the expertise i can get from you.

Do you think i should upgrade my tuning box first, tune the heck out of it, or upgrade my turbo first. Oh ya, i think it must also be caused by the aluminium intercooler piping, i turned the turbo nozzle downwards so that the pipe can form a smooth curve from one side to the other. The diameter of the pipe is pretty much the same sixe as the intake manifold housing (throttle?).

i will have to check with your 102 hp.

my best shot is either uprate peak power, or get my recommended box DMS.

change turbo to a td05h-16g, or a holset hx32, get external wastegate and new headers, with intercooler pipes and intercooler, as well as downpipe and exhaust you can expect hp numbers from std 102 to atleast 160hp-200hp.

ive got 17" rims, pivot voltage stablizer.

im planning to juice up my ride, say...., bigger torque, lighter ,turbo, faster...

here in my hometown, they sale typhoon ecu....

Please advice on step by step tuning guide on my vigo.tks...

hey mate,

for your non intercooled vigo you can change everything as stated above, headers, turbo, ecu piggyback, intercooler, intercooler pipes, downpipe exhaust, wastegate etc.

my advise to you is dont buy typhoon, its really not worth it, they are problems with engine check lights etc and the performance of it lacks compared to other ones. its quite primative in its actually function and tuning interface.

if you want to juice it up, with piggyback systems you have two types of system:

single commonrail line cap, directly to the piggyback, these increase no more than 20-25hp, and about 80nm of torque.

then you have the multimuple capped, independent fuel injector caps, that fit directly to the injectors, thus there are 4 caps sets, these are powerful piggyback systems, power output increases 35hp + 60hp -depends with tune. they also avoide all engine check lights, so its easier, funner, faster to drive. unfortuntelly they are most defentially more expensive, close to double the std type.

Philipm, I think i will elevate the boost/ fuel for the moment, asking for quotations in the mean time. Do you have a business partner in Hat Yai? Easier for me to get the modifications done. Finally, when you say uprating peak power tuning box, do you mean ditching it, buying a new one, or i can plug in another tuning box to run parallel with the existing one. Khaawp khoon khrap.

You will find there is next to nothing for the landcruser in thailand,( what there is is probably imported ) id say you are probably in the best country for lc spares, i go there to buy, phnom penh is polluted with them and id ask there,as for coming to thailand ive only done it that way round with a bike ( registered to me in cambodia ) and it was easy, you get a month permit on entry ,.

hey guys for your 2.5L vigo. i would recommend either of three brands.

DMS-diesel management systems (the cross country hilux uses this piggyback)-also myself with my hopped up triton.

Dcommander 3000, there is a new Xtream series that specailzes for the vigo, to work with maf sensor, and unlimited boost etc.

Peakpower is also very crediable, most thailand circuit trucks use special tune peakpower piggybacks.

In regards to your Peakpower, you dont have to throw it away, just send it back for special retune, as for Dcommander we can tune them according to users specifications and appliciations. if you have a turbo, intercooler change etc then we uprate it accordingly. all of these units are very impresive in power delivery and reliability.

I also have sent ecus to malaysia before with no problems. and due to its light weight the cost of sending is not much at all.

Sorry Cifreak, i dont have an agent in Hat Yai, but we have no problems sending it out to where ever you are. Within Thailand or not.

But nobody install it yet here and here is no specialist for that

I've just done two months ago.

It take 6 months - 3 months for shipment and customs troubles and another 3 months for conversion

With that budget you can go for Subaru WRX
