Hi,

I have read various threads and some are confusing, others tend to be contradictory,so I thought I would ask directly myself.

I am currently on a Non O visa, I am married to a Thai lady. I have been doing 90day border runs and want to know is there anyway to avoid this ?

I have read on one thread "you can get an extension for 1 year and NOT have to do the border run" and stay for 1 year .........IS THIS REALLY TRUE ? :D ........can anyone elaborate on this ?

If it is true how and where do you do it ? :o

More info if it helps, I am over 50 (just), I have considered a "retirement" visa but dont know what I would need for either the Thai immigration or British Embassy in regards to proof of income as I only have bank statements.....not sure if thats enough ?...I have over 1 mil baht in UK bank, and we have regular deposits every month into Thai bank account (60k month) for the last year.

Any help would be appreciated.......if anyone needs more info just ask

Thanks :D

Extension of stay based on marriage:

family income of 40,000 baht a month. Income can be from huband, wife or combined. Income from within Thailand needs to be proven with Tax doucuments and income from abroad with a letter stating your income from your embassy.

Extension of stay based on retirement:

800,000 baht in a Thai bank account 3 months prior to applying

or

an income of 65,000 baht a month

or

a combination of money in a Thai bank and income, totaling 800,000 baht.(no need to have money in the bank for 3 months)

The retirement visa is the easiest for you and immigration.

Suggest you contact the UK embassy about what they require to issue a letter for income proof.

Link to embassy website with contact info: http://ukinthailand.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for...galise-document

For info on extensions see the police order page 8 clause 7.17 for marrage extension and page 10 clause 7.21 for retirement.

Thanks VERY much the links were a tremendous help in establishing facts. I was particularly concerned over evidence of income but it seems thats easily by-passed with this.............

" If the alien does not have the minimum income (40k)above, he shall have an account deposit in Thailand in the name of either party or both of not ess than Baht 400,000. Proof of account deposit for the previous 3 months is required."

This is by far the easiest and most straight forward option (for me).

Thanks again to everyone :o

You need to read that again. It only applies if you have been on a marriage extension since before Sept. 2006.

Yes. TaurusUK I am afraid that does not apply to you.
