Quick question for the experts. I am currently working and living in Shanghai. My Thai retirement visa expires December 4th and I will not be able to get back to Mai Sai in time to renew. Have had 5 consecutive retirement visas. I have a Thai wife, house, and son in Thailand. Do I have any options to renew the yearly retirement visa in Shanghai?

Thanks

I don't see why not. I got mine outside Thailand. You will need the same paperwork, but will also probably need police clearance certificate which you would not be required to produce if in Thailand.

No you can not get another extension while out of the country. It only can be done here at immigration.

The only thing that can be done outside the country is a non-oa retirement visa which is not the same as an extension and it can only be done in your home country.

You will have to get new extension after you come back. It would be best if you could get a non-o visa before you come back which would make it much easier to get a new extension.

If you do not get a visa you will have to apply for a change of visa status within 9 days after your arrival to start the process of getting a new retirement extension.

Yes. You will have to start all over again.

Or apply for an extension based on your marriage by being able to prove a monthly income of 40,000 Baht.

This also can only be done in Thailand.

I had the same problem. I'm in the USA and couldn't get back to Thailand by 1 November to renew my retirement visa. I recently applied for and received a new non-immigrant "O" visa and will re-apply for the retirement visa.

Yes, I would attempt to get a single entry O in Shanghai, and then you can just get on the annual retirement extension merry go round all over again. If Shanghai doesn't grant the O, you can even start all over again with a 30 day stamp in Thailand ... some offices will convert that to an O in Thailand if you have 21 days left on it, and then from there, another retirement extension.
