The closure of the Suvanabumi Airport in Bangkok is affecting thousands of people of every nationality and religion. One group who has been affected by the airport closure is Muslims who had planned to join the annual pilgrimage to Mecca to participate in the Hajj which this year takes place during the first week of December.

A group of 400 Muslim’s had spent 7 days trapped at Suvanabumi Airport in Bangkok and despite the chaos and limited numbers of flights leaving from the Utapao Military Airport in nearby Sattahip District, a flight had been schedule to leave for Saudi Arabia at 2am on Monday.

As the group made their way to the airport, they stopped off at two Mosques in Soi Neun Pleub Wan. 17 coaches arrived at the two Mosques and the worshippers were welcomed by Khun Mongkol, the Chief of Banglamung District.

Food was provided and the group were able to participate in a religious ceremony prior to them arriving at the airport. The group appeared tired but happy they would arrive at Mecca just in time to participate in the Hajj.

Thats nice news. I feel much better about my difficulty's in leaving, knowing the Muslm contingent is at least happy and on their way to Mecca. It warms one heart to know that no matter what hardships we are facing together their was at least adequate consideration given to the Islamic pilgrim's on their way to do Haj.
