My husband (67) & I (65) uk citizens are planning to retire in Chaing Mai end of Nov.(flights paid for, house to live in paid for) and now things have gone drastically wrong here in the uk & we will only have 800.00 baht in the bank over there & of course need another 800.00. Do any of you experienced & helpful people think it would work if I got my years visa with a letter from Thai Farmers Bank (where the money is at present) & then we transferred the money (via uk) to another bank for my husband to use it, and then did the same thing each year?

I will be so grateful for any advice. Thank you

RETIREES & THEIR SPOUSES:

Retirees who are married to a foreigner eg. Englishman married to say a Phillipino can apply for his "O" status non immigrant visa under the normal criteria of 800,000 baht or 65,000 baht coming in each month. However if he /she wants to include spouse on this Visa he/she must show evidence of marriage, e g marriage certificate.

Perhaps we can phrase this better as: only one person of a married couple needs to obtain a "retirement visa" and satisfy the requirements thereof.  The spouse will receive a visa to accompany without any requirements other than the marriage certificate.  At least that is my take; but not having been there, done that, can not say it is 100% accurate.  But in any case, you seem to be ok and will only require one bank deposit.
