Wow. Something tells me this computer won't happen when I take my bike into Phuket for it's 1st service.

Thinking the same, when i had my ER6n serviced there wasn't a computer in sight. Its a real spit and sawdust kinda dealership that specialises in fixing chicken chasers...... just have to hope nothing other than bog standard servicing is needed....

some pics of the 1st service.

bike connected to computer and it checked everything, injectors, rpm etc etc.

note the photocopied bike documents in the plastic bag under the seat for those daily police stops.

Par for the course in Pattaya.

the mechanic at Pattaya knows his stuff!

Does your chain still make noise & did you ask about it? I can now hear my chain pretty clearly. Doused it with chain oil which made it better, but still... there's chain noise...

Was quoted 15K for a set of Battlax, about the same for Pirellis (don't know what model though)... nice transparent windscreen for 6K baht is also available. If anybody knows of a place that sells ER-6n tires in Chiang Mai, please let me know.

My chain and sprocket noise have reduced in the last 200kms. my bike has done 993kms now. There is too much noise from that area for my liking but i will just have to get used to it. The noise really fries my head when you have a car or bus on your left hand side. again when you are riding your bike and you open your legs to get a "flow of air" if you know what i mean, then the chain sprocket sound travels up into the bottom of your helmet and causes the demons in your head to tell you that the rear wheel and engine are just about to seize and you will now die a horrible death scrapping along a soi!!

I rode Big Guns bike on Sunday, it was wasnt as bad but his bike has over 3000kms on it.

I will monitor it and do what Tony does, regular cleaning and re-apply the blue wax.

His bike also had that 6800 baht screen on and it didnt make much difference to tell you the truth.

I'm not going to bother as my speed stays around 90 - 110 kmph for most of the time.

Regards

A set of Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa Pros will set you back about 10,xxx Baht at ShowPow in Bangkok. If you want I can get some for you and send them up to save you some money.

Bridgestones should be cheaper than the Pirellis.

Thanks for the offer, I might get back to you on that. Awaiting the official dealer quote first though, he promised to call me back with details. Let's see... these guys are not usually rip-offs... you never know of course.

I was quoted 4,500/5,950 total 10,500 or so for Battlax rubber from Kawasaki, Surat. Only problem was, they are not yet available..... But shouldn't take too long, I had the impression they were keen to get rid of the old Dunlops. The 15k you were quoted sounds like a rip-off.

I also found out from Kwackers that the conversion to an Ninja faired version is not so trivial, requires a mounting bracket to be fixed/welded to the frame. So that plan is on hold for the time being.

I haven't noticed any such noise, certainly nothing along the lines that you describe.

On mine, I can hear the chain when riding without helmet and slowly. So not head-splitting noise, not even very loud, I was just surprised I could hear it at all.... sounds like a different thing...

Originally I bought my first 250 ninja from BKK as they weren't available in Udon, I drove it home with no plates, took paperwork to local reg. office and all was sorted out, obviuously Kawas was very helpful and explained the procedure over the phone to the misses first. But it can definately be done, and if you ask Kawas for the info b4 commiting to buy they'll be all the more helpful. Plates came through in 3wks, but different regions have different back-logs, so can take upto 2 months.

Have all provinces got a different reg office for motorcycles and cars? In Udon the main office does driving test/lic. Car reg. and bike reg., then we have a smaller office in the town that just does bike reg and tax disc.

Dropped by Phuket Kawasaki yesterday for 650R first service and noticed they have another delivery of bikes. Currently Ninja 650R's Blue x 1, Black x 2 and Green x 2. ER6n's Black x 2 and Green x 3. Quite a lot of Ninja 250's also and seems the ZX10R is hard to shift at 650K...

Was told that the shop is currently undergoing a 10 million baht face lift and in 3 months time will be finished. It will be a purpose built showroom for big bikes only including a new service/maintenance area.

Also received my first insurance papers and noticed the bike is insured as a Er6f not a Ninja 650R. Also noticed that if the bike was to get stolen i only get back 180K which is strange because my ER6n of 32K less value has exactly the same figures. Didn't question either of these 2 points as i just couldn't be arsed....

So did they whip out the fancy pants computer diagnostics system we saw at the Bangkok service centers?

Your joking right !!!! the cheeky cnuts even had the audacity to charge a 200B labour charge for changing the oil and filter.

If thats the case they can shove it where the sun dont shine and i'll do it myself next time...

I asked about the insurance cover when I payed bike and insurance, if Ninja 650R stolen how much cover? Replyed "roy percent" (100%). Expect to see something else in writing soon. :) More than 80% is not normal, but that should be 205k.

My insurance cover is 190k (should the unthinkable happen).

Yes they charged me 760 baht for the first service and also there stamp in the green warranty book.

It was also 760 baht for changing the oil and filter at 109kms.

Have now done 1300 glorious kms.

I think they told me something like 80% coverage.

760 baht seems like a lot fro an oil change. Are you guys using sythetic?

Not forgetting that includes the oil filter.....then 200B on top for "labour" :)

I think they use semi-synthetic

When I get time I will get a photo of the oil bottle and post it. I can't remember.

I kinda fail to see the outrage over that 200 bht labor charge. While it's true that they usually only charge materials at the Thai motorcycle shops, it's still.... just 200 bht. If you bought a 225K motorcycle, you'll be able to afford that, I think?! Heck I gave them a 100 bht tip last time, crazy me!

Kwaker Phuket, Ninja 650R at 999 km

kawasaki oilfilter 330 baht

veloil synthetic SG spec, in sealed bottles, 150 baht x 2 = 300 baht

labour 200 baht

total 830 baht.

Kwacker Chiang Mai

100% synthetic oil 300 * 2 =600

Oil filter 326

Labour 150

Total 1,076

PLUS VAT 7%

TOTAL 1,150 :D

No tip :)

(Which is slightly more than what I pay for the little Honda Dream)

I guess that the Veloil in Phuket was not 100% synthetic.

Veloil 100% synthetic, which really isnt that important. Excellent mineral oils can be far better quality than cheap synthetic oils. What is important is the API spec, SG, which is a very high quality oil. Even more important, from sealed bottles, I get what I pay for :D Hate it when they come with a dirty bottle of oil from barrel.

The thing is, Kwaker service/oilchange is more expensive than my 3,0 diesel Vigo. But who cares, its just a couple of times a year. :D

I used this Shell Advance VSX Semi-synthetic in the ER6n and after the break in same for the Ninja 650R. Can't remember what it costs...

Kawasaki parts and labor are dirt cheap! Go ask BMW, Ducati or Yamaha what their hourly service rates are! :)

Ride On!

Tony

yepp Tony,

Kwaker service, labor and parts are dirt cheap and available all over LOS. Its another world of riding with workshops and spareparts available everywhere, at a fraction of the price it used to be to keep a bike. Just love it :D

After using a tank of gasohol (by mistake) on my VTX 1800cc v-twin I needed 4 new sparkplugs. Not available in LOS by any supplyer (NGK, Bosch, Denson you name it). 3000 baht and 3 weeks from Singapore.

Gasohol damaged fuelsystem, or perhaps just released old build up (bike 3-4 years old) in fuel system. Had to take it apart ( pump/filter in tank, hoses, injectors) and the black shit was like glued/burned to the sparkplugs. Cleaned them, worked ok, but not to perfect condition. So replaced them.
