Bad Internet Connection To International Sites And Webinterfaces

Recommended Posts

After a year of troubles with TOT, i changed to maxnet,, TT&T wich works fine for dhe first 2 months. Since about middle of December i have a very hard time to connect my webinterface wich is hosted with my domain on a server in Switzerland. The same thing wth my Laptop, wich i connected via USB cable to the mobilephone. Manytime it shows me "This page cannot be displayed". Almost impossoble to log in to my email account and absolutely impossible to update my homepage. Does anyone know whats going on?

I haven't noticed any problems on my 4 Mbps TT&T Maxnet link recently, but there may be a problem with some places in Europe:

But London seems OK:

I have similar problems with True.

I cannot get to my alumni email account in NY either with Outlook or with webmail.

I can do it at work though.

I also can get thru if I use my cell phone as a modem using Bluetooth and GPRS/Edge

with DTAC. Very esay to do. PM me if you need help doing it.

I believe that some international cables were cut not too long ago and that

they are not scheduled to be repaired unitl this month, Jan 09.

That may be the source of our problems and it should clear sometime in the

next few months.

Very frustrating, I agree, especially if your email has important or timely information.

Cheers

Hi jetset.

Does Maxnet have a site in English?

I couldn't find one.

If not a rude question, what deal did you strike?

cheers :o

Here's a bit in English :D , but I went to a TT&T office to get signed up years ago: http://www.maxnet.co.th/product_Indy.php

At that time it was 1,000 baht a month for the "Maxnet for Home 512/256" package. It has been upgraded to 4,096/512 in stages over the years.

Here's a pic of what's available now:

I guess I'm on the bottom package now.

Definedly something going on. Past couple of days been very slow to europe...

385097464.png

Helsinki has better speed in uplink than d/l... :D

385101691.png

Also USA is slow so not sure if related to cut cables in europe, or then rerouting europe traffic is blocking USA as well...

385102726.png

But hooray ! Thailand is ok and True can still claim it's not them :o

Good prices, but they never returned 7 calls over a few months... 'busy naa, we'll call you back in two weeks naa.'

Actually, I've been very happy with true - 1k per month for the 2048 'shark', but includes true hotspots wifi when you're out & about. It's a decent deal if you live in Bkk.

Jetset,

thanks for that.

I'm 100' outside the Bangkok border, I wonder if I'm classed as rural by the Telcos.

I'll see if I can find a TTT office out here........

No bars or farangs out here. LoL

Server in Bangkok? :o Everyone should get a good in-country speed... :D

385351936.png

It's a nice speed...., but you're getting less than 100% of the speed you pay for while I'm getting 130% of what I pay for (on this one very rare occasion).

I wish that I did always get a good incountry speed... :D

(I best stop know, I'm way past my knowledge zone.)

Ah, so that's pretty good for a 2 mbps service! :D

I usually get about an 80% of the bandwidth (to Bangkok) whatever nominal bandwidth they are supposed to supply. Even at peak time tonight it was about 80%:

but sometimes - like that earlier test I did - I get about 95%.

I think that Premier - at 2 1/2 times the price for a 4096 download speed - is a bit pricey for me:

I don't appear to get any problems accessing what I want, and now that Google, Yahoo, MS and a few other major companies have their own dedicated links, the international bandwidth that's left is available to the little guys:

inetmap122008.gif

And don't forget Thailand's international bandwidth is growing every month. In the last 9 months it has more than doubled from 26 to 55 Gbps:

Date................Int. Bandwidth (Mbps)

2008-12-31..... 55,095

2008-11-12..... 45,752

2008-10-13..... 43,748

2008-07-09..... 29,226

2008-06-11..... 30,726

2008-05-13..... 31,246

2008-04-08..... 29,194

Can I ask how others find their True service? I have been with TOT for a few years now and it is really bad, i can never get consistent 300mbps to NA even though I have 2mg service.

So I am about to jump over to True and get their 3mg service. I have heard it is better and that I should see much faster international speeds (TOT is fine in Thailand).

Can anyone comment if that is true about TRUE or am I jsut going to spend money and go thru hassles for nothing?

Thanks

It would be great if we could get lots of users to do the exact same Speedtest.net checks to the same servers at the same time, e.g. the checks could be done at 3pm Thai time to, say, Bangkok, London, New York and San Francisco.

Then we could post the results for comparison. Here's mine for 1 am Thai time on Maxnet Indy 4 mbps.
