Since by age I am not fit into the mold of standard sizes anymore I have been looking hard for a leather suits. Due to my rather impressive middle it doesn't seem like I fit into any of them, unless the arms and legs are very long.

So I was just for fun looking at custom made leather suits, and I found them surprisingly reasonably priced compared to the standard ones, still expensive don't get me wrong but for the little difference in price you can go for custom sized... That is good news for all of us who is to well trained with the beer comforter to fit into the mold.

Here is some suppliers from US, you even get them machine washable leather tanned.

A custom made suit is around 900 US$ and up depending on color etc.

It probably would if they knew how to make one, but a standard sized race leather suit in Thailand cost 90,000,- Baht which is roughly 2800 US$ so 900$ for tailor made race suit is not expensive at all in comparison with Thai prices. You can fly out, buy it and fly back for the same price as a standard race suit in Thailand.

See this thread that I asked in the Bangkok forum about custom making leather pants. Leather pants Tony's quoted me 6,000 baht for custom made leather pants. I do not think it will cost 90,000 baht for a full custom made suit. If it was me, I would just get a 'pre owned' suit (they drop their value significantly when the owner wants to get rid of it since not everyone has the same size) off of ebay and have a place like Tony's custom taylor it to fit me. I was thinking of doing it, but I really don't need a full leather suit. I would still rather have a jacket I could detach from the pants just for practical and comfort reasons.

Submaniac has a point, not practical. Jacket and separate pants works out great.

You guys ever consider going down to Singapore and buying this stuff? They have a great choice at very reasonable prices.

That is an option getting one re-fitted, good idea. I will go for a two piece anyway so I can unhook the jacket during stops.

Singapore, no but I get things in from US cheap so I would never pay the Thai resale price ever. I liked the idea with custom though, my one pack belly is not according to my chest I'm afraid so I would need to go for one which is slightly (tell myself) oversized to fit in. A good race suit is quickly 800+ $ so for a 100$ more custom fitted and made of machine washable leather is really not a bad deal. Expensive it certainly is but the difference is not big. If you take a cheap leather suit you get down to 500$ and thereabout and then it's expensive.

If you are going for the two piece suit, just buy the pants and jacket separately. Get the ones that can zip together to form a full suit. It will make things alot easier in terms of getting the right fit. I have a leather armored jacket, and leather armored pants. I can swap in my armored mesh jacket for those hot days, or put on jeans for those days I can't be bothered to get suited up. Frankly, it is very rare that I will wear both the leather jacket and leather pants. When I ride, I am going somewhere and will have to get off my bike and walk around. Walking around in a single piece, multicolored leather unitard will make me look like a douchebag. Granted, I am already a douchebag, but I don't want to accentuate it more than I have to. Even now I don't wear the leather pants with the jacket because whenever I get a glimpse of myself in the mirror or store window...I can't help but feel I am the leather guy from the "Village People".

Don't get me started on that theme submaniac, village people hahaha good one. Well the only one who is afraid of looking like one has doubt about himself is an old saying, for me the most important aspect is not look but survivability. Put on a leather apron a denim vest and that is village people, not that I have anything against them or there music btw.

They can copy virtually anything at the better BKK leather shops, just take in photo and specs, unitard or separate. No more than 25,000 baht at the outside I'd estimate.

Hey Bard, leather has been over done to death. How about a nice purple velor one piece with Spandex waist? I'd be happy to knock that up for ya just for a bit of practice with the sewing machine. :o

Wow spandex how can I resist? If you make it I'll ride with it haha...

Purple, think pink would be even better :o

Anyways I talked with Z-Custom in US and they can get one for me custom made (machine washable leather) for less than one grand US delivered to my door, around 30k baht which I must say is not a bad price for one custom made in US
