Has anyone experience of using IGO Nav n Go version 8 GPS in Thailand? I have just started running it on my PDA with map version 2008.03. I am thinking of purchasing the latest map which was released in September/October 2008. It will probably be version 2008.09 or 2008.10. I much prefer the software to Garmin but the map data is a bit dated and a few of the navigation directions are just plain wrong.

ANY ONE HAVE NEWS. or are we all using Garmin.

what the OP is referring to is the maps used on non-garmin gps. you have nav-n-go also powermap12 all based on the i-go system.

The IGO software is really nice to use (running IGO 8.0 not 8.3). Far superior to the Garmin XT Mobile I have been using recently. (eg you can scroll the navigation map, it shows distance to destination, rerouting is quick and easy, it runs very smooth on my ancient PDA)

There is now hardware available with this software under the name of Karako http://www.karako.co.th/

Saw the units in Central Pinklao, 8000 for the small unit, about 12000 for the larger one.

Map is by Teleatlas not ESRI and covers 60% of Thai roads

Details here: https://www.naviextras.com/shop/portal/cata...e=1&area=10

I got the 60% figure from this page but you need to look at the coverage section of the South East Asia map not the Thai map.

My IGO map was released in the first quarter of 2008 (v.2008.03). The latest map was released in third quarter of 2008 (will have version number 2008.9 I guess). If I compare the IGO map with the most up to date garmin (8.3), I can see that some very minor roads are missing once you get out of the main cities. However, as the software is so user friendly and all the roads I need are on it, I will be sticking with the IGO. BUT it has made a couple of bad routing errors compared to the Garmin. However, I think all GPS software does this at some time.

Well worth a look if you are thinking of purchasing a GPS or find the Garmin interface a bit too simplistic and/or frustrating.

pf you should also look at Powermap 12. as i understand it this is a better Thailand map but works on the i-go platform.

i got the Garmin mainly because no one would answer my questions about i-go and powermap either.

With all respect Allan but doesn't that answer your question already.

Also if you read pj123 last post regarding missing of minor roads and making routing errors I wouldn't even use it if it was free.

If you want to see if your map is current, here are the coordinates for the newest Bangkok bridge. This is the Kanchanaphisek bridge;

N13.63356 E100.53858

Like it or not, the ESRI map is the most comprehensive map I have seen. Many available maps are no better than a road atlas and some not as good because of routing errors.

I'm using a PNA with iGO 8.3 and latest Thailand map, it works fine.

I know its quite an old post - but where did you get the latest Thailand Map?

Mine are from 2007 and i couldnt find any updates somewhere.

Besides that i am very content with iGo and the routing in Thailand was always correct so far.
