Insane Big Sport Bike Prices!

karlos

Recommended Posts

Hi, i'll soon be moving to thailand and would love to buy another big sports bike gsxr750, zx6r etc etc.

Having compared a gsxr1000 (04) to a uk spec bike there was some what of a £3000 price difference!!! :S

New gsxr1000 selling for near on £12,000!!!! crazy prices, i know thailand is geared more for smaller bikes and i assume dealers would rather sell 1000 small bikes per year compared to 50 big bikes per year but does that really justify the insane prices???

Ok rant and rave over now!! lol and on to my question...... How much would it cost roughly to import my own motorbike and what if any thing would i be required to do to ride my own machine on Thai roads??

Thanks in advance, Karl :o

Nope, the import tax will be so high that it is actually cheaper to buy one here in Thailand... There might be ways around the tax, please let me know if you find one...

I think that it is a 300% import tax... I asked at Siam superbike once (I wanted a white hayabusa) and he told me to wait since the taxt would be to high... (I never got that bike)...

I read some where that i wouldn't have to pay import tax if i hold a work permit in Thailand? could be wrong when it comes to motor vehicles though??

Also read some where that sending a bike in two parts (bike and then the engine) would minamize the import taxes, as i would be importing 'parts' and not a 'vehicle'

Karl. but then you can not register it properly in Thailand if it has been imported this way. and not paying import tax on personal imports is probably true but also an urban myth in as much as if the customs guy sez you pay xxxxxbaht you pay xxxxxbaht.

If you have not ridden in Thailand before make sure you have the required surgery before you come eg: eyes in the back of your head and the telepathic ability to know what the other drivers are doing before they do it.because these fuc_kers really dont know how to drive.

By the way you can buy an fz6 official import from Yamaha for 437,000baht and the Kawasaki Er-6n has just been released for 225,000baht these prices are 100% legal bikes with manufacturers warranty.

ther are several threads concerning importing your own bike/car and the general consensus is DONT BOTHER.

Anyone been to that new Kawasaki shop in Pattaya ? Sukhumvit Western side .

Apparently he will have a new ZX10 in May this year .

Er-6n is not in stock yet .

All the bikes on the showroom floor look to be brand new bikes .

Hopefully he will make a good dealership out of it .

What is estimated price for ZX-10? Somebody mentioned somewhere in excess of 600k?

Do you really think we would all be paying 3 or 4x the second hand prices if it was as simple as posting it ??

the only possible angle is temporary import, but its a constant hassle to visa run bikes and remains open to fickle interpretations, customs officer assistance, and being stopped at any point.

Yes- that's correct. Per Kawasaki sales manager in BKK they will begin import of the ZX10R this spring from Japan and price will be somewhere in the ~600,000THB range. I suspect that with the incredibly strong Japanese yen that the price could easily be revised upwards.

How much are the R1 going for? I presume the ZX10R will be very similar. Plus or minus.

PS. If it sells at a cheap rate like the ER6N, gonna shoot myself. (should I sell mine now just in case)

The ZX10R will be imported from Japan so it can't possibly be as "underpriced" (by Thai standards) as the Thai manufactured ER-6n. Still I think Kawasaki's got a good thing going- they got a lot us us hooked with the Ninja 250R and D-Tracker and now many of us are going to upgrade to the ER-6n, and I suspect many will also be tempted to upgrade to the ZX10R when it becomes available this spring. I hope Kawasaki will offer the ZX6R in Thailand some day....

This one is here, with green book, owner wants B190,000 OBO. It is a Honda 400 CC. A friend of mine took it in trade in his business anyone interested PM me.

Lots of chrome of what quality? I couldn't be bothered to polish all that anyway. 400cc no power. No doubt rebuilt by Thai professional engineers and with three year guarantee that the mechanics are OK and the green book holds up.

ER6N 225,000 Baht, 250 ccs more, no chrome to polish, manufacturer's guarantee, 100% green book.

Give us all a break, maybe the bike could be sold to a wannabee Thai biker at max 99,900.

Above aint far off.. Unless someone with a taste bypass wants that chrome its not an easy sell..

I know of a 600 steed thats all real nice clean and minty.. Hes had it on the market for months (year ??) at 140ish.. Hed probably take 100 or close to it.. A few farang owned steed 400's asking 120ish that cant sell, seen one with a flame job (presume its a 400 never stopped) asking 85 that been outside a Thai shophouse with a sign all high season.. And to be blunt that machine posted needs a really specialist buyer !! Someone with assless chaps and big tasche !!

I know of a VMax (that needs a tweak or two however) that could be got for 100 maybe less.

600k for a ZX-10R is a good price.

Yup it is a very good price. Cheaper than mine. :o

You serious? How much did you pay for it?

Pay?? That's for me to know.

Anyhooter RedBaron is way more than 600g at the mo'

Hey, no offence...it's not as if I ask you how much you embezzled jeez....There is hardly any topic in bikes section where price isn't mentioned. Just trying to compare prices with another place that offers ZX-10.

No worries. it was 600g plus. Probably spent the same amount over the years getting it to where it is today.

R1 due to the strong Yen is currently 777k baht which is the same as old price, the Yen got stronger the tax got lower by 10% which seems to equal 0 difference. Can imagine both of those bikes will be around 700K +- 100K mid this year, unless they release the Baht from being pegged to the Dollar which is what I want, then it will probably be much more and you will feel so much better Travelmate. That's what they need to get the tourism back, which again I don't need so currently I'm happy as is... Else looking forward to the oil prices go up again so the traffic goes back down...

Cheers Bard

I overheard Khun Vikrom on the phone today. He was telling a customer that he should get a bike from today's stock because the next shipment of bikes will be 30% higher.

Yeah liter bikes are 620,000. Don't sweat the extra 20,000.

New R-1's won't be 600 k - they'll be over 700,000.

But when you buy a Lexus i would bet that the company give you at least one years warranty.

The fact that Red Baron don't give at least a one year warranty kinda shows all they are worried about is profit.

not customer service.

and its kinda self defeating because if they were clever they would actually make more money by insisting that the services be done by them. Not a lot goes wrong with a correctly built new bike.

but i do agree Red Baron WAS the best of a bad situation. now we have more choice so lets see what happens over at Red Baron. my guess is 'not a lot'

also i got a 3 month warranty on a 2nd hand CBR so why not longer on a brand new big bike. answer GREED
