Epson Printer "parts Need Service" Message, Printer Stopped Working

Featured Replies

The other day our printer came up with the message "Parts inside your printer have reached the end of their service life" (or something like that.

This has happened before to other printers. If the warranty period is over, it's not worth paying to get the printer fixed. I was told it's an automatic message and doesn't necessarily mean the printer is broken, it just comes up after having printed a certain amount of pages.

Does anyone know more about this? Can it be by-passed in someway? Seems like a scam to me, besides the cost of getting a new printer, it's also a waste of resources.

This may be an indication that the waste in collector pads need changing eventually.- but not now. you probably have plenty of warning. You might be able to reset your Epson by pressing three buttons to reset the counters: The buttons are "STOP" "Maintenance" and "POWER"

Apparently, the printer will sound like its going to blow up, but thats normal.

I read that you can do this about 5 times before your printer starts to piss out ink over the table because the Waste Ink Ink Pad is full

To avoid eventual flooding go to rear of the machine- remove the little door and rake around for a small plastic pipe buried under some padding under the left side.

Fix to this a thin piece of polythene tube[Fish tank air supply], extend it to our side the machine and place in a suitable container to collect the waste ink.

Thanks for the advice. It's a real cheap model and only has 2 buttons, pressing these together didn't do anything.

The message is "SERVICE NEEDED: Parts inside your computer are at the end of their service life etc."

YUP ^^^ it's the maintenance pad rip-off.

What is the exact model of the printer, the reset sequence is different for each.

Thanks, It's the cheapest one, a C45

Then try "Googling" the model number with the message to find the reset sequence.

I also ran across some info saying that you need the "SSC Service Utility" to do this.

sscserve.exe is at the download of Thaivisa.

Cheers.

The pukka Epson reset proggy is here http://printer-resetter.site90.com/2008/10...tter-epson-c45/ only works under XP though (not Vista)

Have you try to run it in compatibility mode XP Sp2? If not, just give it a try! Most software and drivers work using that function.- which also applies to Windows 7!

Cheers.
