Camcorder Stepping Ring

Featured Replies

Does anyone know a place that sells (or even makes) stepping rings to adapt an add-on camcorder lens with a 36.5 mm mount to a Sony camcorder with a 30 mm lens ring? I looked everywhere, not only in Thailand but on business trips to the US and Japan and couldn't find anywhere that stocks a range of stepping rings. I have a couple of add-on lenses inherited from another camcorder and cannot figure out how to get them to fit my Sony without an adaptor or stepping ring arrangement.

Hi "Hanimal",

I asked for the post to be moved into this fourm and thanks to "Lite Beer" :o it is here.

I looked up on google and could not find a match of said ring. The closest I got was 37 mm to 30 mm. You may have to Step Up and then Step Down, which means 2 rings or more.

Would be nice to know the model of the Sony camcorder and the couple of add-on lenses that you inherited, to narrow down our search.

Yours truly,

Kan Win :D

Thanks. The camcorder is a Sony DCR-TRV22E. This has a screw thread on the front of the lens of 30mm diameter. The additional lenses I inherited do not have a brand that I can see. They were just stuck in a carrying case with an old video camera and therefore I do not have the original boxes. One is a wide angle, the other a tele, and they are definitely made for a video camera. They must have been purchased in the UK.

Their mounting rings are screw threads of 36.5 mm diameter. They used to fit a Panasonic camcorder. I also found 37-30 rings at several shops at Pantip and Fortune. I agree with your idea that two rings might work. So far I only found the 37-30mm rings (the problem being a lack of 30mm rings). Any idea which two rings I should purchase in order to make this work?

BTW, appreciate this being moved to the correct place - I had no idea where to put it. I have many other questions about where to buy equipment later....
