In the past when I have flown into BKK you were able to have people greet you as you were coming out of the customs area. On this last trip after the Airport takeover by the protesters I found it was different. I had a friend coming to pick me up and he could not even come into the airport. I will be returning to Thailand soon and will have some other friends arriving a few days later and I plan to pick them up at the airport, but am not sure what to tell them on how to find me...or how I am to find them, since you can no longer greet people coming out of customs.

Does anyone know what to tell your visitors coming to thailand?

it's possible that city car traffic can't come onto arrivals level, with exeption of taxis - but your friend can wait for you on the departure level. He can even park there and give you hand with luggage straith after customs

On the arrivals floor, there's a "meeting point", clearly signposted. Usually a few people around, but never had a problem meeting anyone there.

I told my father I'd meet him at a specific location close to the taxi ranks, but couldn't get there because of security. Went to the meeting point and that was his next port of call when I didn't turn up where I said I'd meet him. If he can find it, anyone can!

:o

Yes this came up in February when I arrived in BKK. It used to be possible for vistitors to meet you outside the arrival area. Since the airport takeover it is not possible to meet people like it used to be. However, there is a meeting area #3 that your relatives or friends meeting you can go to. They will have to park their car outside the arrival area (in visitors parking), but they can then walk across the overpass and down to the arrival area. They can wait for you there. When you arrive, and depart from the customs, turn right and walk until you get to an area with the number 3. That is in arrival area. and it is labeled as a meeting area. Do not go to your left, as visitors will not be allowed there. The arrival area for meeting is meeting area #3, labeled metting area.

Coming out of the customs, turn to your right, and go down until you get to the meeting area. You should see a number 3, and a sign saying vistors meeting point.

Next week my son and I arrive in Thailand on seperate flights. He will have about a 1 & 1/2 hour wait until my flight arrives.

Besides meeting point No 3 is there another location suitable for him to wait?. I was thinking of the eating places on level 3 perhaps, I have only been there once before but recall quite a few suitable places he could have some nosh and wait for me.

Starbucks is the place I also advise people to meet me when arriving. There's only one, and it's well known enough everybody can find it. beats the crap out of standing around waiting for delayed flights or immigration clearing.
