Window Live Messenger And Hotmail Not Working?

SInce I got my new laptop which has a vista os and the latest version of window live messenger installed I can no longer get my hotmail account to open from windows live messenger. I has worked on all of the previous versions but just not on the latest. Ive tried in both firefox and Ie and still no luck. All I get is a page load error with'Failed to connect''The connection was refused when attempting to contact g.msn.com' In the toolbar the link is 'http://g.msn.com/5meen_gb/11' and it just wont connect. Everytime I want to look at my emails I have to do it manually through hotmail. However I still do get the pop ups when I have recieved a new email I just cant access them.

When i put the link into Internet explorer to do a test I get

'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

You are not connected to the Internet.

The website is encountering problems.

There might be a typing error in the address.'

There is a Diagnose Connection Problems option and when i click on this it tells me that

''G.msn.com'' is not set up to establish a connection on port ''World Wide Web Service (http)'' with this computer''

Is this just another in the long list of problems that im having with Vista as its all gone over my head

Does anyone else have any idea what it could be?

Thanks

Jed

You might need to check the firewall settings and make sure the programs are on the allowed lists. I have noticed a significant delay accessig any Microsoft sites lately using MSIE but can get rather quick connections to Microsoft sites with other browsers, particularly Maxthon2 and Google Chrome.

Additionally connecting with Windows Messenger is spotty at best with many times not able to make Messenger run for extended periods of time.

I have no explanation only the observation and do wish you good luck getting it sorted out.

  • 2 years later...

My hotmail hasn't been working for a week. I can open hotmail. But cannot open or send any messages. This is in Bangkok. The computer was fine with hotmail before last week and I have not made any changes to my configuration system.

I had the same problem last week, as did hundreds of others. Must have been a result of an update as I never had problem before.

I run Windows xp and followed the following, which solved the problem.

Go to your hotmail screen

Under options, click "more Options"

Under "customizing hotmail', click "advanced privacy settings"

Under "using https for extra security", click "go to https settings"

Select "USE HTTPS AUTOMATICALLY"

Click "SAVE"

That solved my problem instantly.

Hope this helps you and many others.

My suspicion it's more of a problem with service providers in Thailand, and in particular with TOT over the past couple of weeks. Two days ago, I had problems with links provided with Google search, last night the internet was completely down, with me having no IP address. Today, I noticed a couple of times Outlook was having problems in signing in to Hotmail.
