were trying to find a hotel where the pool area overlooks the beach so you can sit in the pool and look out onto chaweng beach. ideally quite tropical looking and a place where its enjoyable to sit long periods and drink cocktails

Why not check some of the hotel sites on the net.If they have nice pool it will be prominent in their adverts,narrow down your options & maybe ask for a feed back.

Nora Buri Hotel situated at the north end of Chaweng. Great pool with bar and overlooking the sea. Bit pricey but you get what you pay for.
