Featured Replies

i just bought a new car; before delivery, the dealer said i need to get a letter from Thai immigration that verifys my address.

what documents do i need to bring to immigration to get that letter? is only a passport ok, or do they need other proof? thanks

No, only a passport is not OK as it does not prove where you live in Thailand and thats exactly what the dealer needs to establish with a Cert of Residence letter from Immigration. House Book/Rental aggreements are whats usually provided but without knowing your living arrangements, I cannot confirm what it required.

I hope you get the gist of the type of required documentation .

You can get a certificate from immigration with

2 Photos for each copy

PASSPORT

Copy of all pages of passport to visa

Copy of your lease and original of it

If you do not have a lease rent receipts electricity water bills etc giving your name and the address may do

500 baht each copy.

about 2 hours

I think it is a good idea to get at least one extra copy and maybe two at the same time as you wil need it for licence and is good identification which may help in other situations such as banks.

You can also use a certificate from your embassy where you swear your address but this costs considerably more generally.

The above post is correct except a Letter of Residence is free in Korat.

If you are from the USA you can get this document at the consulate for $30.00. And you wont need any of the above other then you PP.

Where did you go to obtain yours, is that Bangkok Immigration?

Apparently it differs a great deal where and which immigration officers you apply at, some are free some are obviously corruption fees.

and best of all some no longer provide them like in Hat Yai or Chiang Mai...

This certificate of residence seems to be difficult to get so please if anyone has done this in BANGKOK

post the requirements and details here

I initially had no written lease, no utilities in my name when I bought a Toyota in Buriram. I had no clue at that time how to obtain a letter free from Immigration. "Family" drove me to the border, not the immigration office. In the end I paid the 1200 baht in Bangkok at the US Embassy for the letter confirming my residence. I then used that letter for the purchase and REGISTRATION of the Toyota. This does not answer your question about obtaining the letter from a Bangkok Immigration office, but a letter is possible to purchase without any difficulty from various Embassies and Consulates in Bangkok.

I got mine in Chiang Mai With No problems. THere is a bitof work in the documet. It seems to be an originally typed letter with my photo atached and the immigration seal over the photo. Documents I needed are as described. I had a photocopy of the lease. They charged 500 bart a copy.
