Driving From Sukhumvit To Nang Rong (korat)

Featured Replies

I have to soon pick up a hire car from Suvarnabhumi airport, drive to a hotel in Sukhumvit soi 24 and then from there find my way to Nang Rong. I've had a look on google maps but don't feel confident enough that what I think to be the best route is actually a good route at all!

I guess the most difficult part will be Bangkok, after which I plan to stay on major highways only for as long as possible (I'm not a new driver but I haven't driven a car in Thailand before).

Please could anybody familiar with this route, particularly the Bangkok part offer any advice?

Many Thanks

Ask you car hire place for a GPS unit. Hertz has them for 100baht a day. ideal thing if you are a tourist.

Suggest hiring a driver with the car if that's possible. You're first experience driving here will be a bit daunting and if you're not familiar with the roads will be a real challenge.

The roads to Nang Rong should be good. Get a map from the car hire place and maybe have them highlight the route. Should be something like out the airport to #7 motorway then north up # 9 ring road transition to #1 north and then #2 towards Korat. Before Korat take #24 to Nang Rong

When in Bangkok just get onto the first elevated toll road you come to, if you take a left out of soi 24 to sukhumvit you can head down to ploen chit past soi 4 Nana and get on it there. They may be a quicker way someone can tell you. Then head for Chang Wattana Road and follow that to Don Muang, from there it is straight all the way to Saraburi, then take right to Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat), before entering Khorat you take a left which sends you onto a right turn flyover towards buriram, Nang Rong is in Buriram province, you will come to Nang Rong before Buriram. It should take about 5-6 hours if all goes well and driving at moderate speeds.

If you look at your map it will identify the road numbers you need to take, (I don't have them to hand at the moment), these are all be sign posted on your journey. It's not to difficult and you will think how easy it was once you have done it.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks all, appreciate the replies.

I'm hiring with Auto Europe but they make no mention of GPS so fingers crossed they have that.

I may buy a road map just in case but wouldn't know where to start looking. I'm staying Sukhumvit soi 24...?

Any bookstore has a variety of road atlases and maps. I know for sure the SE-ED bookstore has them.
