Hi

I am looking for an inexpensive but nice hotel for a family get a way this weekend. Where the kids could play on the beach, go swimming, snorkling or maybe even body boarding. My children range from ages 4 to 13. We have a very large family so would need 2 to 3 rooms. This is another reason why we need inexpensive. We were told about a nice evening market that is there. Any info on that would be appreciated also.

Thanks Peregrine8

You can try Baan Chan Chai Opp the Market village easy access to the beach and they have a pool too. there are a few evening markets, one clso to the Grand Hotel and one in the main town both worth a visit...

Have a good weekend!

I don't know about the hotel, but the night market is on the upper part of Dechanuchit road (Soi 72) which is right in the middle of town. The market runs two blocks from the main (Petchkasem road) west up to the train station. They start setting up around 4 p.m. every day and close the road to auto traffic. It runs till around 10 p.m. If you want to go when all the stalls are open I'd go between 6 and 9 p.m.

There is also another good market called the Grand Night Market (because it is near the Grand Hotel). It is open 5 out of 7 nights (I think) but I don't remember which nights it closes. It is located right on Petchkasem road beside San Paulo Hospital at Soi 86.

Currently there is another market (more of a street fair actually) run a couple of times a year by the Red Cross to raise money. It is several blocks long and has lots of Thai trinkets, music, and foods. It is located down the middle of the north part of Naebkhehars road. That's the road that splits off from Petchkasem (main road) in front of the Wat at the (Starbucks) clock tower. The fair is on the other end (about a kilometer) of the road from the clock tower near where the road dead ends into the Palace grounds and I think it will still be going on this weekend.

Yes this is a good hotel, actually there are two hotels, and reasonably priced. The prices from May are 1,000 baht or 1,100 baht net per room depending on the building. The lower price is for the P.P. Villa, which is in a separate building to the Puan Pen Villa Hotel.

The two hotels have a decent pool and it is maximum five minutes walk to the beach. Please note that this hotel complex does not have a restaurant for breakfast although they have a small cafe. Breakfast can be had at nearby restaurants, which are plentiful.
