The SET has started to bounce back in the last couple of months.

Is the current upturn the start of a long bull run?

What do you think?

A lot of stocks have put on some good gains recently with the construction and property sector doing particularly well.

Where is the smart money going right now?

I think the more pertinent question is whether the current run is sustainable or whether the bubble is going to burst again due to global trends &/or domestic political un-certainty.

Personally I don't hold much faith that this current lull in political un-rest will last much longer before another violent campaign of some description starts up & destabilises the country even further, so have changed my current strategy from "buy & hold" to "shorter term trades".

Can someone who understands the " pysche " of these investors / speculators in SET

explain what specific improvements there have been in fundamentals to justify these increases ? :D

Meanwhile i am off to the casino to play the wheel - red or black its an easier choice

than pretending to understand this stock market bullshit :)

there is no need to understand the psyche of these investors. much easier to understand is the fact that those who bought the index six weeks ago are sitting on (annualised) profits of ~285% :)

don't worry it will come down again after sucking everyone in to it. I think its about peaking soon actually--end May latest.

If they had put options on actual shares instead of this SET index rubbish I would be

tempted to buy those right now but it seems like a quite illiquid market - not that many instruments traded

Given the relatively low level of the SET now, the market must offer some real value in terms of buying stocks now and holding onto them for 3-5 years (or until the market reaches 2006 levels again :) )

not everyone, as not all investors are greedy suckers. some of them know when to pocket profits, lean back and wait for more opportunities.

Well I've been waiting 14yrs for it to reach the 1994 levels again, no guarantee it'll hit those 2006 levels anytime soon

I saw this paragraph today commenting on why the USA rally is unlikely to be

sustained ...........

" Irrational exuberance has been evident in the markets before but the deciding factor that allows it to drive sustainable (at least for the 1-2 year time horizon) bull markets is the inclusion of slow-liquidity sidelined institutional directional trend-setting capital in the rally. Bull markets have volume to direct the equity prices' ascent. That simply doesn't exist right now and premarket gaps up are responsible for a big part of the rally. For the rally to continue, even in the face of complete irrationality, it needs sidelined cash to come pummeling into equities. It needs large volume accumulation to drive directional trends. A low volume rally floating higher is not indicative of any of that. Especially if this rally gets parabolic soon, which would lead to disastrous liquidity issues."

I am just curious ....are there any parallels to the SET? Have the volumes been strong ?

Why did SET drop sharply today ?

Anything to do with this :-

Thai Confidence Falls to Seven-Year Low on Protests

By Suttinee Yuvejwattana

May 14 (Bloomberg) -- Thailand’s consumer confidence slid to the lowest level in more than seven years last month, when protests in the capital Bangkok left two people dead.

The index dropped to 65.1 from 66 in March, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce said today in Bangkok. That’s its lowest reading since December 2001. The gauge is tracking a nationwide survey of 2,242 respondents.

Ive wanted to short Raimon Land for ages(it seems little more than a marketing exercise to me), but never got around to opening a local account etc. Anyone know where you can get free Thai share charts, of decent quality?

If you are already an Esignal subscriber, SET listed companies charts are available for $1/mo.

Soundman looks like he uses Kim Eng to do a bit of trading. I tried to open a practice account with KGI but it was all a bit pants with persistent logging on problems. Does anyone have an views on what broker / trading platform seems to be the best?

From the posts so far the general consensus seems to be that the SET is approaching the end of a bear market rally and is currently in a mini-bubble considering the lack of change in the fundamentals with some corrections in the market coming soon..............
