Dear all,

thanks for all the information posted on this forum, i've found it so helpful.

My thai boyfriend and I (have been together for 2 years) are getting ready to apply for his first UK visitor visa and we have a few queries that I haven't as yet found the answers to:

On the website I have downloaded the checklist with all the documents that are required but some are not mention -

-Does my boyfriend need to provide his birth certificate as well as his passport and ID card? If so, does it need to be translated, the website says "not all documents need to be translated", which ones do?

-Does the Residency Book (blue book) that all thai's have need to be put in with the application?

- My boyfriend recently picked his army card and was exempt from the army, he has a paper in thai with 5 signatures to show he picked the black card, do we need to include this in the application to show he does not have to join the army? It is not mentioned on the website.

Last query, We are using my bank statments (originals) as i am the sponser, will these be returned? Also do they accept printed statements from internet banking?

Any light on the questions would be most appreciated!

Thanks

The applicant's birth certificate and Tabien Bahn are not necessary for a visit application, but if you do provide them it must be the originals or certified copies.

I don't see any need for him to show that he is exempt from conscription. Although I suppose that there is a remote possibility that the ECO could think he is fleeing to the UK to avoid this, so it wouldn't hurt to include it.

As it says on the VAC website, it is better to include something they don't need than to miss something that they do.

The embassy have Thai staff to translate documents, so it is not necessary to get translations. However, it may save time if you do.

Internet printouts of bank statements are treated with caution by the ECO, as they can easily be altered. If it is not possible to obtain hard copies from your bank then I would suggest having the printouts certified as accurate by the bank, a solicitor or similar.

All original documents will be returned.
