Need Suggestions For A Sailing Lake

Featured Replies

I am looking for suggestions for a suitable lake to sail RC sailboats.

Ideally the criteria are as follows

1. At least 1 rai of water

2. Minimum 2 meters deep

3. Not clogged with lilys

4 A walkable shoreline of at least 30 meters.

5. Parking for 6-7 cars

6. Food nearby

7. Restrooms nearby

8. Exposed to the wind (not sheltered

I have looked at Laguna, but there is no walkable shore suitable and they run jet-skis (not good) there.

I have looked at Nai Harn. It has everything and looks most promising. Only issue for me is that it is 45 min away.

Any other suggestions?

There is Karon lake, but, it has steep sides which might mask the wind.

A miniture of Nai Harn, but, about half the size.

Yes Bang Wad Dam and Reservoir.

I wonder if "they" will let you play in a reservior?

I fish there.

No restrooms though ( i don't know of any at nai harn either)

Bang Wad sounds like what you want although they are doing construction over there now and the walkable part may be in their construction site.

But there is an island on the east side about 3/4 of the way up that might work too.

Oh, no food up near the island.

The main area for parking (near the breast) only has food on weekends when it gets crowded.

Yesterday some kids came with a pickup truck full of speakers and cranked them up so loud, they chased about 40 people away.

I really wanted to say something to them but my wife said "no way"

you could tell everyone was upset about it but not one person went over to talk to them. So, they left instead.

Hi,

There is a good sized lake at AoPo grand marina that would be suitable. Check with the manager 'Simon', there are restrooms and parking at the lake edge, but not a lot else. Construction on the new restaurant will start next week, so there will be eating and drinking facilities available

Don't see that lake on Google Earth. My Phuket map shows an Ao Po Seafood and an Ao Po Center on the East Coast just north of Band Rong Pier. Is that where the marina is?

Ban Wad dam and res. is the freshwater supply for most of Phuket. I seriously doubt that they want sailing on its surface and all that comes with it. As well posting for 'No fishing" is in affect, although Thai nationals pay it no mind. and now it seems Ferang as well.

You're right. Fish sh1t is less dangerous to the drinking water supply than a 1 metre radio-controlled yacht.

If I had an MP here, I'd be writing to him forthwith.

Pesky R/C modellers, there should be a law against 'em.

Sir Burr, there is a law against them.

"R/C Powerboats only in my pool" :) sorry, no sailboats
